It speaks across borders. It helps us gain perspective. Problem solve. It is what elevates us.
"The arts, far from being impractical and irrelevant in the running of daily affairs, can become a foundation for the capacity for emotional centering, social consciousness, compassion, and ultimately ethical governance and a foundation for global justice."
- Bandy X. Lee, M.D., M.Div. Yale University
SYREN is in its Fourteenth Season of sharing dances that have been inspired by subjects ranging from life cycles to quantum physics.
"Red and Blue, Bitter and Sweet" is inspired by the wild world of Quantum Physics. The piece will have its world premiere in New York City on February 9-11, 2017. The performances will be held at Gibney Dance: Agnes Varis Performing Arts Center. This is dance carefully made with research, rehearsal, collaboration, experimentation, gentle humor, work, and vision.
SYREN needs your pledge toward raising the $12,500 needed to bring this work to the stage with dancers, a theater, lighting, costumes, and marketing to make sure a large and diverse audience is reached.
“The scientific picture gives us a lot of factual information,
puts all of our experience in a magnificently consistent order,
but it is ghastly silent about all and sundry that is really near
to our heart that really matters to us. It cannot tell us a word
about red and blue, bitter and sweet...”
-Erwin Shrodinger, Cambridge University Press, 1954
We are all made of tiny particles. Wild particles that leap over time, shift speed or location to escape observation, and that communicate with each other instantaneously (quantum leap, uncertainty principle, and entanglement, respectively).
Many people don’t know about quantum physics because they think it’s too “scientific”. It is complex and vast, but it is also awesome. SYREN created this dance about it so that everyone can ponder the universe, and the universe within each of us.
SYREN is in active conversation with Physics Departments at both Yale University and NYU. The need to contemplate the universe at scales large and small is relevant and it is energized
We ask you to support the Arts right now. Your pledge will support speaking across borders, gaining perspective, problem solving, and elevating humanity. The Arts require engagement from the community to be fully realized.
SYREN asks for your pledge today in the spirit of hope, generosity, trust, and growth.
Risks and challenges
SYREN has 14 years of experience with producing dance in New York City. SYREN has outlined the rehearsal and production process and has a goal structure for the timeline. This has worked well to outline the arc of the process in the past in order to ensure completion. There is a specific schedule of rehearsals, performances, and promotion and this outline will be followed to be sure all aspects of the presentation are intact.
SYREN has learned that taking time well in advance to work out all logistical details is what allows for a complicated process to be smooth in order for the art itself to take center stage.
SYREN is ecstatic for the opportunity to share "Red and Blue, Bitter and Sweet" with audiences, and the company is thankful to the Kickstarter community for helping us achieve it!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
