Like any superhero there is an origin story
This whole crazy idea started with two guys sitting in a living room, listening to one of their significant other's screaming: "Who's soda is this?" at the kids. We decided that we should come up with something to stop the wasted soda in his house. From there we started to develop a prototype for cans, After about 26 tries, we had the dimensions perfect for The Can Marker attachment mechanism and some basic shapes. We showed them around and got them into a few stores. Feedback was great, but we always received the same feedback "What about bottles?". We always replied with "soon". The challenge is bottles are different sizes and shapes where as the tab dimensions we worked with were all similar, We tested multiple prototypes as well as multiple materials. In the end we came up with what we call it the Drink Ring. its semi flexible and adjustable, it will fit mini water bottles all the way up to large Gatorade bottles. It can be used as a wine or martini glass charm. The Can Markers fit into a specially designed socket on the Drink Ring. With that we created the universal drink marking system.
We believe our products be the next evolution of the wine charm.
With our products you are able to mark almost every prepackaged drink be it can or bottle, or wine glass. Our goal is to put the Universal Beverage Marking system in every home so we never hear someone ask Who's Drink is this? To do that we need your help to expand and get these into your hands.
The Planned Use of the Money:
1.) We currently have 2 Provisional Patents, we would like to turn these into full utility patents, Lawyers are expensive and the patent process is complicated.
2.) We currently have 3 mismatched 3d printers, Although they print great, our current setup can produce only 24 packs of universal beverage identification kits per day or 150 packs of can markers per day. We would like to have at least 10-15 new printers of the same make and model (with larger print areas & faster print speeds) for easy repairs and universal spare parts. This would allow us to produce enough product at a time to meet the demands of chain stores and distributors. We believe as more product gets into the market there will be more demand.
3.) We would like to purchase a filament production machine and a shredder. With 3d printing not every print is perfect. There are times when a whole bed of printed items are ruined for one reason or another. Also there is always skirt material that is wasted while the nozzle primes.. Although we currently recycle that material, we would actually like to be able to recycle that material in house to be able to print with it and reduce our waste costs. We would also be able to mix our own custom colors.
4.) Custom Packaging. We currently are using ziplock bags and printed cards and business cards, we then have to affix a hang tab. Its a costly and time consuming process that could be simplified. The volume of orders our goal would entail would allow us to scale up to the point of making the packaging we are dreaming of a reality. This would be pre-printed heat seal bags in the exact dimensions of our choosing.
5.) Marketing, right now we don't have a marketing budget, this is a shoestring startup after all! We would use the remaining budget after the first four goals are met to do online marketing, maybe get a professional to our pictures and videos.
Risks and challenges
The challenges to this campaign are what is not under our control. As we print all of the items in house. All of the designs have been tested and work great. We have can markers in 5 stores for sale as of today. We need this campaign to fund the expansion to allow us to sell the drink rings in enough quantity.to supply more stores. If we have the funding the printing capabilities are not an issue as we will be purchasing and assembling the printers within a week of the monies arrival.
The real challenge:
We have to order packaging for the product. We are custom designing new packaging and there is approximately a 1 month lead time.
How we are planning for the challenge:
Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We have set the dates for the delivery out a few months to give us the lead time to overcome whatever unforeseen challenges we encounter. We believe in under promising and over delivering. We hope that if our goal is met to start shipping as soon as we receive the packaging.
