About this project

An ancient Mayan curse mixed with modern day experimentation has caused new hybrid species of sentient beings. In this new world humans battle the evil creatures known as the Baleful, while building an uneasy alliance with the peaceful Kindred. All while trying to build new technologies to defeat everyone and protect the human race. 


This is Katun! 


Katun will take place in an apocalyptic future based on the world as we know it today, driven by short stories written by Jason Behunin. The player will be able to visit places around the world where they will witness areas destroyed by war along with areas almost left untouched. There will be a vast array of different environments based on former cities to refuge colonies, from desolate deserts to lush forests. Each race and class will have their own unique starting areas from all over the globe and depending on that class will have special areas only they can visit to level their spells or abilities. The world is full of unexplained myths and mysteries and we want to envision them in this game. Imagine playing as a necromancer having to learn how to raise the dead, but in order to do so you must visit the island of Poveglia. Upon your arrival your eye barely catches a glimpse of movement, as you progress through the halls of Poveglia tormented mangled souls of the past are seen briefly while you search for the doctor that caused their pain so many years ago.

Characters are very unique

 
With each race there will be many different abilities available to the player: the ability to fly, to breath under water, or to call minions to support you. Your race will not only dictate the way you look, but also in the way you play them. 

 
Kindred: Although born from scientific wickedness, are of kind heart trying to live equally amongst the inhabitants of the earth. Most inhabitants see them as their equals or protectors, but there are those who wish to rid themselves of the abominations. The Kindred are of three Races and an example of one is the Daicheil. Having DNA of both bird and human will be winged and have the ability of flight. The Daicheil will live in the Himalaya Mountains where their homes are built out of the mountain side, hallowed out so they can always view the sky. This Race will have elongated facial features and tall in stature with long arms and legs. 

 
Baleful: Fascinated by how well the DNA splicing went during the first phase, the scientists push the envelope with things better left alone. Blood lust, domination, and hatred for humanity are what drive the second phase known as the Baleful. These abominations have three Races and an example of one is the Aracniden. Having the DNA of spiders, scorpions, and humans have lost their humanity and are driven solely for blood lust and mass destruction. Depending on the class will determine whether they walk on eight legs with a human torso or be bipedal and thick with exoskeleton.

Game of balance 


Just like the game of paper rock scissors we will strive for a game of balance. Balance in our weapon system as well as the spell system. Fire, water, light, and darkness the world is full of balance. In the game certain attacks will yield more or less damage depending on what is being attacked, an example would be piercing attacks do more damage versus heavy armor but less versus light.

 
Combat system

 
Many RPG games out there today are just about how many times you can click or cast your best spell and spamming it across the battlefield, there is no real skill involved and we intend to change that. Certain combinations of attacks will result in combo moves and even ultimate style finishing moves. Also a combination of attacks and spells will provide for different moves entirely. The combat system will provide a depth of game play not seen; if you enjoy the old way of clicking your way to victory you can still do so. 


What you can expect from backing our project 


Katun Studios will create a private online channel where backers will have the ability to watch videos of the team as we create our game, as well as being able to watch training videos of their favourite artists. Once the game is to the beta stage, backers will have access to help test the game as well as giving input on content and feel.

Risks and challenges

Katun (Cycle of Time) will be based in the present but apocalyptic world where although main cities have been ravaged by constant war and neglect, you will still be able to distinguish land marks and backgrounds of what used to be. If a player is questing in New York it needs to have the look and feel of its former self, whether that's seeing a crumbling Empire State Building in the far distance or traversing broken down subway systems. We are asking for the bare minimum that will be used to bring in additional experienced artists and programmers along with purchasing software and research material needed to produce Katun (Cycle of Time). Building a game that encompasses all types of game styles (i.e. first person shooter, hand to hand combat, traditional 3rd person RPG) will be challenging but obtainable. Katun Studios has proven its ability to think outside the box and conquering unforeseeable challenges with it's game Covert OPS: Condor, where we needed to prove a flight simulation game can have the ability to not only take off and land but also have huge dog fights and distinct mission objectives all on your smart phone or handheld devices. To make sure Katun (Cycle of Time) is everything we imagine and want it to be the main release will be in a years time with one continent and two playable classes in each race. Two free updates will then proceed for those that purchased the original game and will be released the next two years. These updates will bring in new playable world areas along with new playable races to choose from, or continue your questing with the players original characters.
