GinzVelo - The Future of Sustainable Transportation
GinzVelo is a Human Electric Hybrid. Pedal and electric power combine to make an efficient, healthy and comfortable riding experience.
GinzVelo is going to change how people travel in cities and suburbs. GinzVelo can move as fast as a car, looks like a spaceship, but is technically a very advanced bicycle. Powered by a human and assisted with electricity, GinzVelo introduces the public to Human Electric Hybrids (HEH) and encourages a new form of travel in cities and suburbs. Although technically a very advanced bicycle, GinzVelo combines the speed of a car and look of a spaceship for a sleek alternative to travel by car in the growing age of public transport, carpools, and bike shares.
GinzVelo provides a safe, efficient, and healthy option to travel.
- Safety - The tough, fiberglass and foam core composite body cocoons the rider in a safe, weather-resistant shell that offers protection from both elements and other vehicles. The unique shape and bright LED lights and turn signals ensure a strong road presence even in dim light.
- Efficiency - Its size and function retains classification as a bicycle, making it legal to park on the sidewalk and squeeze into tight parking spots. Powered by a 500 W hub motor and 20 Ah LiPo battery, GinzVelo achieves a range of 75 to 100 miles at up to 20 mph on a single charge without the use of pedal power. Using pedal power, the GinzVelo is so aerodynamic and efficient that an average person can power it past 30 Mph without any assistance while maintaining 20 Mph for miles on end. Pedaling with the use of electric assist allows GinzVelo to have nearly unlimited range. At 85 Lbs, GinzVelo is light enough to pedal for long periods of time.
- Healthy - GinzVelo aims to support the "bike to work" and "healthy family" initiatives undertaken by both local and Federal governments, encouraging people to become more active and integrate exercise into their lifestyle.
KickStarter funds will go into expanding our production capabilities. We have molds for the body, windshield and metal hardware to produce one GinzVelo per week. With your help we will be able to expand our tooling to produce five GinzVelos per week. GinzVelo is production ready, we just need some help to speed up and always push forward. When in production, GinzVelo will retail for $6,900.
Risks and challenges
We have worked on GinzVelo for the past 4 years. During this time, the team faced significant challenges ranging from initial start-up business considerations (e.g., logistics, laws, contractual obligations) to methods for raising capital; allowing for the manufacture of molds and a canopy for the body (the latter of which looks at home on an fighter jet).
All of our work is culminated in the GinzVelo prototype seen above.
Along with the completion of GinzVelo, our current challenge is to produce the parts effectively. Automating current in-house tasks and obtaining the necessary equipment to move a greater proportion of production to a supplier network which will allow us to accomplish our goal. We are currently concentrating on automating parts trimming with a small CNC machine as present work is otherwise done by hand. Additionally, the manufacturing of molds for the plastic and fiberglass parts, and a larger CNC machine to mill all additional components will serve to increase production efficiency. Although requiring a significant amount of capital up-front, acquiring this equipment and automating workflow will allow for sustainable production, ultimately leading to the delivery of high quality, cost effective GinzVelo's.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
