About this project
The Pen. Rewritten.
The purest transfer of our mind’s content to the world happens when you connect pen to paper. Science has shown the profoundly positive impact that connection has on our ability to express, learn, and remember. Through invention, advanced engineering, and precision manufacturing, this pen was designed to inspire confidence in all you put forth; it was designed to rewrite them all.
Four Powerful Functions
1. Continuous Cam
Twist to open, twist to close; any way is the right way.
The pen’s heart and soul is its mechanism. We designed a mechanism that’s as robust as it is crisp and intuitive. Our ContinuousCam technology allows for a clean interaction: a half-twist in any direction to extend the pen tip and a half-twist in any direction to retract the pen tip. Simple, predictable, and affirming.
2. Super Clip
Keeping your pen where it should be—right there.
A pen should always be accessible which is why we designed this clip to secure the pen, no matter where you clip it. This low-profile design maintains clip-force through its range of motion.
3. Texture Grip
A comfortable grip that holds.
This pen is as comfortable to use for hours of creative work as it is quickly signing your name. This was achieved by designing a grip utilizing a time–tested knurled texture. Gentle pressure is all that’s required to maintain a steady grasp.
4. Any Ink
Use the ink that fits your personal brand.
What you put on paper is a reflection of you. The kind of ink you prefer to write, sign, or think with is a personal choice, which is why the pen was designed with that freedom of self-expression in mind. The internal design allows you to choose from over 35 different ink refills and styles so that you can choose the ink that suits—you.
Don't Just Take Our Word For It...
"There’s a unique asymmetrical clip, great twist mechanism, and tight tolerances throughout that make these interesting. They definitely fit well within my preferred pen aesthetic – clean with some low-key details that give the pen personality."
"The design is polished, the assembly and construction are great, and the concept is just unique enough to set it apart from the hundreds of Kickstarter pen projects out there."

"[T]ough looking, and maybe even a bit on the slightly aggressive side (but not too much), but also has a flair and sophistication that makes it unique and grabs your attention. You see it and want to pick it up."
"From an engineering standpoint, the pen works and feels awesome. Functionally everything is pretty flawless and top notch."

The Pen is proudly manufactured in the United States of America.
In order for The Pen to have such a crisp and clean action, each component is made utilizing state of the art manufacturing processes from raw stock and is held to tight tolerances. This results in an pen that boasts a refreshingly intuitive actuation that lasts. Beyond the combination of tight tolerances and well made components, it is the thoughtful attention to detail that results in a pen that you want to pick up and use.

Risks and challenges
"Advancement only lead[s] to positive change when they are taken out of the lab...and brought into the world" -D. Schmittlein
...and with almost 700 days gone by just like that (insert finger-snap) a robust, reliable pen, that is a joy to use, is making its way into the world. Through extensive prototyping and stress-testing, we have validated our design and is ready for production. That said there are some risks...
Lead Times: the biggest project risk is managing and minimizing lead times. Machining, anodizing, laser-engraving, and assembly all need to be managed so that the overall project stays on track. Fortunately, we have worked with all of the suppliers who will be used and believe in their capabilities.
Design: we created a timeless pen from the ground up around a new mechanism that we developed from scratch. From the mechanism, to the clip, to the grip, to the ink interchangeability, we made and tested prototype upon prototype to ensure every aspect of our design was exactly what we wanted. We believe we have eliminated all the design related risks; The Pen is ready.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
