Four adventurous lads from Belgium decided to cycle as far east as the oceans would allow them. Belgium to China took us 1 year and one month, as we took every opportunity to get distracted from our 20.000 km ride along the silk road.
We wrote down what we did daily, and now want to publish a book of our adventures. We are planning to use this adventure to read to the elderly, as well as inspire people all over the world to live their dreams.
Our lifestyle? We would usually sleep in abandoned buildings, in our hammocks in the forest or on people's floors. Our budget was limited to 30 euros per day for four hungry cyclists. Along the way we found love several times, climbed over 200 different statues, jumped off cliffs so much we joined the Red Bull cliff diving team, rode 10 different types of animals, made it to local news 6 times and ate a variety of plants, fruits and nuts fresh from nature's hands.
Because cycling halfway around the world didn't seem challenging enough, we made sure our task was a little harder by involving our friends and family. In our eyes, staying at a deskjob would have been the real challenge.
In exchange for a donation they gave us a series of crazy challenges to complete along the way. Among these challenge were: jump off a bridge of 25m or higher, let the locals in each country buy you a shot of strong liquor, Ride 1000 km without a map, compass or gps,...
We also were not allowed to shave until we climbed the Chinese Wall.
This was because Mao Zedong once Said: - "He who has not climbed the great wall is not a true man."
No obstacle is too great to overcome, but to finish you have to start.
We found a publisher, but are lacking money to pay for ghostwriting, layout, printing costs...
A little sample of our writings: The poem of a sole prison
This is a story, gather round, of when I was young and China bound.
The Voice of our globe can only be heard, by touching the land: foot to earth.
Through hills and valleys I would go,
desert heat or mountain's cold.
Even when it caused me pain.
The reward: A new dimension in the terrain.
Wear your shoes, lad, if you must
I'll enjoy the dry powdery dust
But If you love the tickle of fresh cut grass,
Or to tread soft marble, smooth as glass...
Do you like concrete glow after a sunlit day,
When it heats your cold feet away?
Then join me in the way I roll: dirty feet, black as coal
Shoes are for the weak of sole.
Risks and challenges
The true challenge will be to put the whole story together so that it makes sense, and to explain all our inside jokes to the outside world. We are also planning to add testimonies of people we met along the way.
We are currently also sitting down with a director to produce a shortfilm with all the Gopro movies we made along the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
