About

12 years ago our honeymoon was cut short because the Mozambican resort we were staying in had a few issues. As a refund was getting sorted we returned to Cape Town and used the money instead to record the first few songs of the new album, "Genes of our fathers". Liza and I had met at a November 5 band rehearsal for the Shell Road to Fame finals in 1999 so it was somehow fitting that we spent our honeymoon in the studio.

It has taken another 12 years to complete the album because we were self funding and we also wanted to produce a music video for every song on the album. This we have now managed to do on our own steam and "Genes of our fathers" launches on November the 5th. In fact we have decided to include November 5's 1st album, which turns "Genes of our fathers" into a double album with 21 tracks.

In order to reach a wider audience throughout Europe and the rest of the world we want to produce a documentary movie about the album. This will be entered into various film festivals across the globe in 2016/17.

My vision is to eventually hand the November 5 band over to my children. My eldest son Reuben will already be performing 1 song with me at the launch.

£3000 is close to the minimum amount required to make the documentary look professional in a very competitive industry. Some of the footage for the documentary will be obtained by a professional film crew from Belfast at the actual launch event on November the 4th and 5th at the Gin Bar in Portrush. We are keeping various costs related to the launch and shoot as low as possible. For example the trendy venue has been sourced free of charge and I will be doing a lot of the editing myself before handing it over to more seasoned professionals.

20% of all funds raised (around £800) will go to our named charity in India, the NGO "Youngistaan" ( see http://youngistaanfoundation.org ). The charity helps feed the poor and takes care or orphans across India. £800 is what is required to build toilets/WC's for the children at Grace orphanage on the outskirts of Hyderabad. More than 100 children are housed and schooled here but have to use a field for their toiletting needs. With over 500 volunteers Youngistaan supports several orphanages in India. I met with their leaders in Hyderabad earlier in October and together we visited Grace orphanage, see picture below. I was very impressed with what I saw and the positive influence they were having on some very bright but needy children. Footage from the trip and hopefully the completed WC's will also feature in the final documentary so we will be able to see what our contribution has achieved.

Risks and challenges

The album and music videos have been completed and the road is clear to now produce the documentary movie. We do not envisage any significant pitfalls in completing the project as long as we can raise the funds for the professional production of the movie.
