The H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival®-Los Angeles returns for the fifth year at the exquisite art deco Warner Grand Theatre in historic San Pedro on September 26, 27, and 28, 2014.
If you want to add-on an official 2014 HPLFF-LA T-shirt, the Esoteric Order of Dagon-San Pedro chapter (EOD-SP) shirt, or an HPLFF-LA work shirt, and it is not included in your package, just increase your pledge either $25 for the regular T-shirt (HPLFF-LA or EOD) or $40 for the work shirt.
- Add $25 if you want an extra T-shirt or do not get one in your reward (applies to either Esoteric Order of Dagon or the official HPLFF-LA 2014 shirt)
- Add $40 if you want the HPLFF-LA 2014 work shirt
Add Ons: Tokens!
As an additional add-on (some included in our VIP packages), we are offering special wooden tokens illustrated with Steve G Santiago's excellent art of Nyarlathotep, Cthulhu, a Nightgaunt and a Mi-go. There are four total. Add $8 to get one (random), $16 to get two (random, but not the same), $24 to get three (random but not the same), or, for a SPECIAL PRICE, $25 to get all four. These are printed on cherry wood, and the obverse will be the image of Lovecraft that is on the Reel Passes. These will be smaller than the Reel Passes, so you won't be able to use them as entry tickets.
- If you donate $100-$199, you will get one of these tokens (randomly selected)
- If you donate $200-$349, you will get two of these tokens (random, not repeating)
- If you donate $350-$649, you will get three of the tokens (random, no duplicates)
- If you get the hotel package ($650), you will get all four tokens
- If you are our Crawling Chaos donor (there is only one of these available), you will get four complete sets (16 tokens total).
Add Ons: Reel Passes
We've had a request to get one of the Reel Passes (the wood carved ticket, pictured below) from someone who can't attend the festival. We are happy to oblige! For an additional $10, ANY LEVEL can get one of the Reel Passes. However, if you are attending you will not be able to claim yours until Sunday of the festival, as they are used as tickets. If you get the Ghoul Grab Bag or the There in Spirit reward level, the Reel Passes will be sent out after the festival has occurred.
Add ons: Additional Tickets
Most (not all) reward levels are the actual tickets to the festival. If you want ore than one ticket, select the reward level you want, but pay double(or triple, etc.) the amount for each extra ticket. We'll ask about additional names in the reward survey. If you have questions, feel free to message us.
Add ons: wooden poster
Add $25 and you will get one of the wooden posters, with Dane Ault's artwork laser engraved into cherry wood! (these will be limited in make)
History of the HPLFF®
The HPLFF started almost 20 years ago in Portland, Oregon by Andrew Migliore. After years of attending and contributing, filmmaker Aaron Vanek went insane and spawned an HPLFF in Los Angeles. Now madmen Cody Goodfellow and James Knouse have joined the adventure. This is a licensed franchise of the Portland fest, but each festival has its own distinct brand of madness.
Our last Kickstarter campaign was a huge help for us to pull off one of our biggest festivals yet, with over 500 attendees! We want to break 600 this year. We can't do it without your help, however. Take a look at our reward levels.

Tickets to the staged Call of Cthulhu production by Visceral Company (highest level donors):
“In his house at R’lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming…”
The Visceral Company presents an all-new adaptation of H.P. LOVECRAFT’S “THE CALL OF CTHULHU”
The Visceral Company, winner of “best LA theater season” accolades for 2013 from review aggregate site Bitter Lemons, is pleased to present the world premiere of an all-new adaptation of H.P. LOVECRAFT’S “THE CALL OF CTHULHU” for the 2014 Halloween season
From the same creative team behind last year’s highly acclaimed, sold-out Lovecraft: Nightmare Suite, this production of H.P. LOVECRAFT’S “THE CALL OF CTHULHU” is adapted and performed by NY Drama Desk nominee Frank Blocker (Southern Gothic Novel) and directed by Visceral’s artistic director and LA Weekly Theater Award winner Dan Spurgeon.
H.P. LOVECRAFT’S “THE CALL OF CTHULHU” is based on the short story originally published in 1928 and considered to be one of the most important and enduring works by Lovecraft, the godfather of modern horror.
Blocker performs all 9 characters in the show, from a Brown University archaeologist, to a New Orleans police detective, to a Norwegian sailor and his wife. All of these personae are linked together across several decades, caught up in the mystery of an ancient, frightful clay idol of the alien god Cthulhu, the cult that worships him – and the doomsday his awakening will bring.
H.P. LOVECRAFT’S “THE CALL OF CTHULHU” will play Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm and Sunday matinees at 3 pm, from September 19 through November 9, 2014, at the Lex Theatre, 6760 Lexington Ave., Hollywood, CA.
Official opening night is Friday, September 26. Tickets are $20 for all performances and are available at www.thevisceralcompany.com. There are special preview performances September 19-21 with all tickets just $10. Parental guidance is recommended for young children. Due to the nature of the performance, there can be no late seating.
Set and puppet design is by Johnny Burton, lighting design by Joshua Silva, sound design and original music by Tyler Burton, technical direction by Ben Womick, and costume design by Pam Noles.
The Visceral Company, called “LA’s premiere horror theatre troupe” by Fangoria magazine, specializes in works that explore the dark, strange, and macabre – killer shows from darker places. We hope to encourage further onstage exploration of the horror, thriller, and science fiction genres, which have been underrepresented in theatre, and to build an appreciation of theatre in the younger audiences that are traditionally drawn to them.

Goal #1 - $10,500 - REACHED!
If we reach this goal, we will be able to get artist Skinner to do a wall mural on a building near the Warner Grand Theater. San Pedro has been very good to the HPLFF-LA, and we are honored to have the chance to leave a semi-permanent--for what is permanent when the Stars Are Aligning?--legacy of the Lovecraft Film Festival there. Please, please help us reach this goal to leave our mark to the public so they will always know LOVECRAFT WUZ HERE!
Here is an image of Skinner's mural in Portland, Oregon. Ours would be different and uniquely original:
Goal #2 - Lovecraft Burlesque ($13,000)
If we reach this goal. these lovely ladies will enchant, entice, and likely drive you mad with their dancing. I'd watch out for the last one.

Risks and challenges
This will be the fifth year of the Los Angeles H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival & CthulhuCon®, and our second Kickstarter campaign (the first was successful). The festival will occur regardless of our Kickstarter campaign, as things are already locked. However if not successful, we will have to resort to personal funds to pay for the theater rental, insurance, staff, marketing, print rentals, guest travel and accommodations, and the many other expenses we accrue. Furthermore, none of our stretch goals will be attained, which is enough to drive us insane.
After this is over, assuming it is funded, we merely need to continue doing what we have done and are doing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
