Using ten large scale pieces, I hope to share my vision of what heroism looked like during an incredibly dark time in history.

I have been working, working, working, and it has been lovely. i have even roped Isadora (my 7 3/4 year old) into helping a few times and that has been magical in and of itself.

My first completed piece is also the piece that started my mind rolling with this whole project. My Mother Superior piece. The memories are chalk pastel pencil. The three larger figures are oil sticks, and the accents on the center memory group, as well as the habit, are acrylic.

That is the piece before I added black fabric to accentuate the habit and the link between the mother and the Mother Superior.

Here is a close up of the hardened fabric that is adhered to the canvas with this really cool stuff. The white will become clear as this finishes drying. Here is a another shot:

That gives you a long side of the painting. (I also added a signature since the first pic).

The second piece that I finished was one that I have seen clearly in my mind since early in the project. It is called Strangers in Paradise. This piece is about Jews who managed to avoid going to camps by using fake passports given to them by Righteous Gentiles. There is more than one story of this type of bravery and heroism, so this piece is for all of those people. You are seeing the figures with black faces, but you will also see a photo of an closeup with a silver mask. I have two other masks drying and then they will be spray painted this silver color and used as well. In the end, all three figures will have identical silver, anonymous masks on. The background of this is acrylic, the flora is water color gel sticks, (Isadora painted that big beautiful one in the upper left) and the people are graphite sticks and black acrylic paint. The masks are casts of a clay piece that I sculpted, made with plaster of paris. The casts were then sprayed with metallic silver paint. I will post this fully completed in my next update.

I have a third piece in progress and will post more about that as it comes to fruition. I plan to start the next trio as I wrap up this one in a few weeks. I have found that I like having three working at a time so I have different things happening at once that I can play with depending on my mood.

Hope you enjoyed the update. Please feel free to comment and let me know what you think!
