I would never have thought I could design – until I had to actually do it. Here’s how it happened.
While I was texting and waiting in line for the best coffee in town when the inevitable happened. When trying to pay for my order, I dropped my iPhone. It smashed. I blame it on how inconvenient it was to dig for change in my wallet, while at the same time keep the phone in hand.
The tragedy however, prompted me to search for an easier, more convenient way to keep and store my essentials. However, none of those wallet and phone case hybrids I could find were perfect. Most designs just incorporated a few slots to a hard shell case. They were an unsightly mix of flaps and buttons. Even the phone stored inside could be scratched by the cards pressed against it.
What I really want is that it feels and looks like a traditional wallet, but is certainly much more than that. So I decided to create one myself. I started off with an idea of using a wallet as a base. Then I extended the function of it with a soft and elastic fabric to fit the iPhone 5. This actually set me on the right path.
The next thing I found is that most of wallet+case designs totally miss out the slots dedicating to small items such as a handy SIM eject pin, an extra SIM card and even a door key. It will be nice if I could cater these easy-to-miss items in my wallet.
When it came to the choice of material for the outer shell, I am looking for a type of leather with a soft, velvety surface similar to suede, but far more durable. It has to be "nubuck", which is some of the most expensive leather to purchase. If you are familiar with the Timberland shoes, you know what I'm talking about. Finally I need the most reliable zipper to wrap up the wallet construction. One zipper gone wrong can render an entire wallet unusable. Thus, YKK Japan is second to none.
The pursuit of perfection was not easy. It took innumerable drafts and notes, before I could come up with the design that sets it apart from others. I am now confident enough to say that my design is ready for you. It will definitely be something that you can be proud of having a hand, and in bringing to production.
Risks and challenges
All our materials have been sourced through multiple vendors. If any of the materials is unavailable or cannot be delivered on time, we will switch to a different source. This might affect our delivery date, but not extensively. We have located backup sources for all our materials to prevent this risk.
Genuine premium quality leather used for CAZLET may vary slightly in color from one batch to another. Thus the look of CAZLET may differ slightly, but this is an inevitable trait of genuine premium quality leather.
We are confident of keeping to our shipping schedule. However, should there be any unforeseen delays during distribution, we will always be transparent and inform our backers of our remedial actions.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The space surrounding the mobile phone compartment in the CAZLET forms a natural airbag-like cushion. This provides great support and offers an extremely effective protection against drops. Compared to conventional hard shell cases, the CAZLET does not transfer impact directly to the phone.
Can I still hear my mobile phone ring or even put someone on speakerphone, while my mobile phone remains fully concealed in CAZLET?
Yes, you can. The sound coming from CAZLET is not blocked though it may seem fully concealed.
No, the case opening is fully concealed. It will not slide out even if the CAZLET is held upside down.
No, the CAZLETʼs phone compartment is designed to fit a bare phone for perfect alignment.
From real-life customer: Nice project. How many cards will it hold? Could I get 10 cards and 10 bills in it?
You can definitely fit in more than 10 bills. In fact, it can easily hold up to 30 bills. It has four dedicated card slots, in which two are scanner friendly. If you have 5th or even 6th cards, you can stack two, or even three cards and fit them in one slot without any problem. It is your choice :-)
Not to mention CAZLET also caters for thoughtful items that are missing in other wallet+phone design.

From real-life customer: That buttery soft leather feels amazing. Why are your prices so low for such a high-quality nubuck leather?
You won't regret once you're amazed with the butter-soft nubuck which feels sumptuous on and works much better against the shape. If you’re concerned about the price, don’t be, we can find the real thing at reasonable price because we source it direct from the leather factory. We are running an online model from a warehouse, and don't believe in excessive packaging which adds a few bucks to cost. So we can sell the real good stuff at a real good price.
Yes, you can. By placing the card in CAZLET's back slot, the card scanner can read through it just as breeze. This is especially handy when you are using an access card at building main gate or a transportation card at subway station.
The CAZLET itself is not made of RFSafe material, because we want to make the back slot easy scanning on card reader. Instead, we have a separate card sleeve which is made of high-efficiency RFSafe material. Any standard size card can fit in the RFSafe card sleeve, which can be placed in the CAZLET's card slot.
This allows your access/transpot card to be scanned, while having important card(s) to be protected from illegal RF screening. It is a more flexible arrangement to choose which cards should be protected, and which cards should not.
You can purchase separate RFSafe card sleeves at half price when we send you a survey form once the Kickstarter campaign is over.
How do you choose between the Touch ID Friendly (TIF) Style and the Home Button Sheltered (HBF) Style?
Both styles are compatible with iPhone 5s/5. The Touch ID Friendly (TIF) is excellent for iPhone 5s with direct access to the Touch ID, while the Home Button Sheltered (HBF) is excellent for iPhone 5 by extending the lifespan of iPhone’s home button.
Yes, you can use the iPhone 5s/5 model of the CAZLET for an iPod Touch 5th Generation, which is about the same size as an iPhone 5s/5, Everything else is fine except the position of volume-up button position is off.
Accessories and CAZLET can be mixed and matched in numerous combinations to suit your particular need. We can't cater for all combinations in all levels of rewards, and we don't want to give something you don't need at all. However you can opt for accessories you want at half price when we send you a survey form once the Kickstarter campaign is over.
The loop can act as a finger strap or a hand strap, whichever that suits your need. As a finger strap, you can use it to hang up your wallet to keep things tidy and for an easy find – or to carry your wallet, with it hooked onto your finger. You can also use it to attach a Hand Strap from KYNEZ – enabling you to carry the CAZLET with your wrist, and thus, freeing up your hand.
