How far can you run from the fire? Dirt wants to go to Paradise, but will she be able to leave her past behind?
How far can you run from the fire?
This is what Dirt wants to know.
Dirt is a short film and totally collaborative effort between several film, photography, writing, production design and illustration students. We hope to create a piece that follows mood and performance, and discover certain qualities about love and forgiveness between a detached family. This project started a year ago, when several friends found a VHS camera and began making up stories about folks living in a forgotten rancher community called Paradise Park.
Your contributions will bring Dirt to California! Not really, of course, but we do need funding for the production to take off! We will be shooting for about a week in late April, and although the whole crew is volunteering their services, we need to feed, house and transport them! We've already raised enough to get started, and rallied enough to see substantial support, but we still need a little more to get going!
This short film is about Dirt.
Dirt is a teenage gal living in the pits of rundown suburbia, with her burnt-out mother, Lorraine. Both women seek escape, but it is Dirt who finds it when a boy promises to take her to California. She must decide what’s most important: running from the flames of her past or staying with the one person who is more lost than her--- her mother.
We follow Dirt through the run-down landscape of a misrepresented class in America, from broken suburbia to derelict housing. With performance and authenticity in mind, we hope to create a film that is honest and careful. This piece is about hating the ones you love, and coping with family. However this film is not a melodrama, but, as in the vein of David Gordon Green or Harmony Korine, this film is about humanity, which embodies humor and heart-break.
Please look at our Website for more information about the project, fun competitions and background information about the crew and cast. Also, feel free to find our Facebook and follow us through the pre-production process.
We will have consistent updates about the project on Kickstarter, so stay involved! Look out for more teasers, reads with the cast, and concepts for pre-production.

The Story Behind Dirt:
Tonight there’s gonna be a party.
That’s what we know for certain. People are gonna’ be there, ya’ know? It’s somebody’s birthday. I don’t know who.
That girl Dirt, she’s gonna’ be there. She’s always at these things. I bet she’s sitting up against The Great American as we speak. You know when you walk up the hill and there’s that hidden spot? That’s were she hangs out. I drank a forty there once, but it was warm.
She fucks out there, on the ground and shit. In the weeds. I seen a lot of rough shit happen to her. But, what are you gonna’ do?
She falls in love and shit. Everybody’s a troublemaker though. Somebody’s always bringing some shit along that’s bound to fuck somebody up. Everybody’s willing to let her love them. Hey, I’m not judging, I like lit as much as the next guy. And it’s always fun to see the girls all doped up, their makeup melting.
I’m just hoping shit doesn’t get as weird as last time, that’s all.
What’s Dirt’s deal? I don’t know. Her Ma’s crazy or something, on more shit than you or I. A couple years back she set their house on fire. I heard Dirt’s got burns all up her leg. Whatever it is, it ain’t pretty.
I’m gonna try and nab some beer from my dad. Probably head out there ‘round eleven. It’s a long walk.
Hey, can I get a ride with you guys?
