Uensil believes that mealtime with your favorite beginner no longer needs to be one mess after another. The Sporklet™ offers a safe and playful innovation pairing a hybrid beginner eating utensil tailored for the small hands of children with a wristlet.
Backers of this project will experience a reduced amount of mess and distraction at mealtime with children and can be rest assured that the product was produced with utmost importance placed on safety and quality of materials.
With your support, Uensil aims to kickstart this project into production. The Sporklet™ must make it through an expensive two-part molding and assembly process in addition to a first production run in order to be made. Please take action today by backing the Sporklet™ and sharing the campaign with your friends and family in whatever way is comfortable for you.
With your help in backing this project, the Sporklet™ will be molded and manufactured in Wisconsin, USA using safe, high quality materials and production practices.
Safety analysis has been completed by an engineering firm to test section and material properties. The safety factors tested in the analysis included bite, area, area moment of inertia, hardness, elongation, density, yield strength, ultimate strength, flexural modulus, bending stress, tension stress, and torsional stress. Uensil met each safety factor in order to make the safest utensil possible and promptly comply with federal regulation.
All parts have been engineered in order to conform with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) regulations. The Sporklet™ will be manufactured, assembled, and packaged within ISO 9001 certified facilities in Wisconsin, USA.
The material Uensil is using for the utensil part of the Sporklet™ is a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) thermoplastic resin made from 100% recycled milk jug containers; a natural fit for a Wisconsin based company. The second material Uensil is using for the wristlet handle overmold part of the Sporklet™ is a super versatile silicone. Silicone became another great selection for the project, as it is hypoallergenic and resistant to bacteria.
Both materials are FDA approved and free from BPA, PVC, Phthalates, and Lead in addition to external coatings or harmful adhesives.
According to a Franklin Associates Report on Life Cycle Inventory Analysis of Recycled Resins, July 2010, recycled resin uses 90% less energy and emits 78% less greenhouse gases than virgin resin. The resources consumed to produce one pound of recycled resin under this same study are: 0 gallons of Oil, .22 kWh of Energy, 277 grams of CO2, and 202 ml of Water.
Uensil is committed to using post consumer recycled materials wherever it can in order to reduce its emissions and energy use. In terms of volume, the Sporklet™ is made of 45.7% recycled materials.
Uensil strives to leave the tiniest footprint it can. This is why its products are designed and manufactured within a close proximity in Wisconsin, USA. Uensil believes that a great way to nurture and grow its community is to invest in it.
The Sporklet™ has been designed to be simple in form and beautiful in color. Please visit the Uensil company website at uensil.com for more images.
Despite the Sporklet™ utensil having not yet been produced with select materials, color selections, and features that are true to the way in which they have been engineered, Uensil would like to request early feedback in order to provide you with the best experience. Please send any feedback related to the product or how Uensil generally operates to firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you in advance.
The utensil was engineered with safety being of utmost importance. This focus on safety became a driving force behind the Sporklet™ design, resulting in decisions such as the wristlet being securely fastened to the utensil in order to comply with child safety standards set by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) once produced as a small batch manufacturer. In order to minimize further risk for babies and children, Uensil went about developing a safety quick-release feature for the wristlet in order to disengage when necessary. The bowl of the utensil features a gentle tine to help children begin to use a fork.
Uensil has found that the Sporklet™ performs best as a first training utensil for children ages 9 months and up. A data set gathered from a documented study Uensil carried out offered insight on the varying nature of child development and motor skills. Uensil developed the Sporklet™ to be used early on, ideally as an introductory utensil for beginners.

Risks and challenges
Uensil has run into the challenge of not being able to affordably produce colored samples in the USA. So, for most accurate color representations, please visit the company website at uensil.com.
Due to the holiday season, the Sporklet™ will be up against considerable competition. Please share the project with your friends and family if you would be so kind. This is where you can make the most impact as a project supporter!

Fulfilling orders on schedule can be a demanding task requiring many hours of dedicated spreadsheet mastery and packaging hustle. However, Uensil is up for the job and is planning to meet any size demand in order to minimize the risk of missing the set delivery schedule.
Shipping individual products around the world can be notably expensive depending on delivery location. If Uensil notices that rates have fluctuated in an appreciable amount since the time of its estimates, the company will notify backers in certain regions immediately in order to find a fair solution.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
