Talking about us:
Leikr watch technical specifications
The Leikr story
We are a group of former Nokia engineers; for years, together as a team, we have created state of the art smart phones, integrating some of the most advanced technology in the mobile industry.
We are also passionate runners, bikers, triathletes, swimmers, marathoners, and more.
During our training we have tried different GPS watches and we have never been completely satisfied with them: too bulky, too difficult to operate, slow in getting the GPS signal, small screens and little to show: honestly quite boring stuff.
We were looking for the perfect device to support our training and we could not find it.
Last year we decided to take the chance and realize our long wanted dream of a training GPS watch that every athlete would desire.
That was when we created Leikr.
Who is a Leikr athlete?
At Leikr when we say athletes, we mean any individual, regardless of their current fitness level or preparation.
An athlete for us is whoever has the ambition and determination of improving herself/himself and reach his/her personal goals.
That is why our motto is “power your potential”, we believe everyone has untapped potential to reach out to.
Why is our GPS watch so special?
Because it is actually a cool piece of electronics: we took the best practices of designing cell phones and we brought these to the GPS watch market.
We were looking for the best way of having a completely integrated product, maximizing the screen real estate, reducing product size and thickness, increasing battery life and making the SW customized through our back end.
The Leikr watch is entirely designed and developed in Denmark.
What makes our watch cutting edge?
Firstly it has the best feature set for running, biking and all other sports you might want to do: it has a snapping fast custom made GPS system (remember when you are out waiting for the GPS signal for minutes and all you friend are gone?), a big color display (2” full-face color display with 11% reflectivity index, protected under a virtually unbreakable gorilla glass layer), on board maps from OpenStreetMap (no one else does), wireless connectivity to the cloud (you can program your training wherever you are and sync it to your watch: all cables, dongles, SW agents…..gone!)
Moreover, we have the ambition to cover your training from start to end, like no-one else does: from planning, to executing, to analyzing and sharing your workouts.
Planning: workouts and programs can be downloaded to your watch from our portal: you just state to Leikr your fitness level and your goals and then our coaches will recommend appropriate workouts for you. Workouts and programs are then transferred to the watch that follows you during your training: we call it the “coach on your wrist function”.
Executing: the big display shows simultaneously all of your parameters while you are training: pace, speed, heart rate, distance, elapsed time and calories. No need to choose what to monitor, you got it all at a glance.
We track your routes on the maps and show you where you are, where you have been and where you are going, so you can adjust your training on the fly and make sure you always make it home.
Analyzing and sharing: we integrate with Endomondo, the largest on line sports community, for analyzing your training and sharing it with your friends.
Our devices are upgradable, that means that we will grow our devices with your ambitions, delivering more SW features over time.

What have we accomplished during this last year?
This last year has been a year of though work, long days and nights. We have now completed the development of our first device, and we are almost ready to start a pilot in Denmark.
On board Software and back-end: we are utilizing a Linux Operating system and Qt application framework. This solution allows us flexibility and reduced power consumption. Our development team has years of experience developing on this frame work. Testing is on going relentlessly on our first SW version. SW will be upgradable by the users through our on-line portal.
Electronics: the electronics are finalized, 180 components on a 6 layers engine board, with 1000 connections, it works like a charm!
Mechanics: design is finalized; parts are currently being manufactured for the first pilot.
What steps do we need to take next? the Kickstarter project plan
We see ourselves as the David facing a few global Goliaths: if we want to succeed we need to scale up and get global traction.
In order to execute our strategy we have decided to enter the US for the first time with a watch designed to match the needs of the US athletes.
We have decided to launch it from Kickstarter.
Here our project plan:
Manufacturing of our device
We have already selected our manufacturing partners and the manufacturing of our first pilot product is currently on going.
Leikr is proud of having selected local production partners here in Denmark for the manufacturing of the electronics, the mechanics and the final assembly of the watch.
Stay local: the advantage of choosing local partners for the production and assembly of our Leirk watch are a few.
1. Danish high focus on quality and high profile competences: being a small country Denmark has always been a center of excellence.
2. Fast iterations and quick corrections: going to the factory is just 2 hrs train away from Leikr headquarters.
3. Low carbon foot print: we want to stay environmental friendly as much as we can as we like breathing clean air when we train.

Arctic White and Ocean Blue: white main body and blue strap.
Atomic Orange: orange body and orange strap.
Risks and challenges
Even though we are used to dealing with quite complex product development planning, we are aware that expanding to the international market requires more muscles and involves a certain amount of risk.
This is especially true when you are not any longer part of a market leading company but working in startup mode.
Potential risks would be external factors beyond our control and linked to the suppliers selection: component delivery, manufacturing and regulatory compliance.
To mitigate the risks we have chosen well established component suppliers, who we were use to dealing with our past experience. We have selected a Danish manufacturer to be able to keep high control on the manufacturing process. We also have close relationships with FCC experts from the mobile phone industry who will help us expedite the process of obtaining FCC approval.
We will have high focus also on the internal development: SW customization, testing and design.
We are committed to execute the plan, making it happen, and we believe that we can be done in 6 months.
We will keep you guys informed during the whole process, so that you will know what challenges we are facing and what actions we are taking.
Yes, the strap can be replaced. It is securely attached to the watch by a system we call "Strap lock". It is enough to push out two plastic plugs and the strap can then be removed with a snap.
The mechanical solution of our device is designed to be waterproof.
According to the tests we have done so far with our current prototypes, we can already say that the watch is definetly water resistent (we have tested it extensively in the Danish pouring rain without any problem)
Once we will finalize our production assembly process we will start testing its waterproofness.
Currently we are targeting Endomondo as our first on-line sport community. We are also planning to make the training data available for export in .tcx format.
WIth the current power scheme optimization we can grant a battery life up to 6 hrs by June. We know that we can improve the battery life significantly and we are going to do it through SW upgrades.
Yes, the idea is to remove the strap and then securely attach the Leikr watch to a bike pod through the same interface.
This is also in our plans as part of the first SW updates. We will give the opportunity to the user to choose the number of parameters visible in the main screen (we call it "active screen") as well as the parameter visible in "maps view". SW updated will be made available through our web page for download.
Yes, the heart rate is shown in the data field on the lower right corner of the main view ("active screen"). The heart rate data is collected by a chest strap. Leikr will have standard interface to heart rate monitor straps through ANT+ and BT.
Yes, through the Ant + interface Leikr will be able to support accessories. Each accessory will be "enabled" through a SW update so that the data collected from the accessory will be displayed on the main view ("active screen").
Currently it is not in our plans to add a music player to our Leikr watch.
We have designed our watch to support future expansions. The accelerometer is already mounted on the board. We will verify that it works correctly during the spring. In the future we will introduce features based on it.
Yes. Our standard warranty for this product is going to be set at 12 months
Currently we have not developed any SDK for our watch. We are now taking into consideration the opportunity of making a limited edition where we make the operating system and software available for modifications. We need to understand the legal aspects of it, specially in regards of our suppliers.
