COLORMEAMERICA to paint the Big Apple red, white and blue!
Project by: Ledoh and SALT FARM BUTOH VÉRITÉ (501©3 fiscal sponsor: Circuit Network)
Help send San Francisco’s native SALT FARMBUTOH VÉRITÉ to New York City to share COLORMEAMERICA at Joyce SoHo April 14-16. COLORMEAMERICA, a Butoh-based multimedia performance uses a triptych structure to explore the relationship between power and freedom. While the work deals with weighty themes, Ledoh impishly regards COLORMEAMERICA as a satire, a Spaghetti Western in which biting humor enlivens the piece while un-mistakenly conveying its political message.
COLORMEAMERICA, a project of Creative Capital, debuted in San Francisco at ODC Theatre to critical acclaim: “as an artist who came to this country fleeing the ethnic cleansing of his Ka-Ren people at the hands of the Burmese military dictatorship, Ledoh has personal knowledge of both violent oppression and the new immigrant’s archetype of America as a land of freedom (SF Station).” “With its hip and ear-teasing electronic score…and its gorgeous video, the heart of "Color Me America" is in the movement. Ledoh…channels butoh's essence without ever falling into its clichés (Rachel Howard, San Francisco Chronicle).”
While Joyce SoHo was thrilled to offer a New York venue, the artists are responsible to raise their own funds for travel, accommodations, and set up of the production. Your donation will go directly to offset these costs!
