Imagine a creative magazine that isn't just about being a showcase for other people's work, but is instead a catalyst to new work - a playground to stimulate creativity, with no walls or barriers as to where it goes and what it features.
That's Elsie Magazine. Elsie is a one-man creative magazine that takes in design, photography, typography and found stuff. So far, I've produced six issues at a rate of about one a year - so I've decided to make it official and launch the Elsie Magazine Annual!
What's the difference you might ask? Well, the Elsie Magazine Annual will be twice as big as previous issues with 200 pages of eclectic, creative stuff to entertain, engage and, hopefully, inspire you.
So, what's the magazine all about?
It's about everything and nothing. It's a personal collection of visual articles and stories. There's no central theme, no big cause to push and...no advertising clogging up its pages! The magazine is simply a celebration of creativity with no self-imposed or external boundaries. The famous artist Robert Rauschenberg once said, 'I have nothing to say and I'm saying it' - I couldn't have put it better myself.
The great thing is, Elsie Magazine seems to connect with people in a way that has both surprised and delighted me over the years. Here are a few things people have said about the magazine:
Every backer on Kickstarter will also get an exclusive Elsie Extra PDF featuring 100 images from the Elsie Vaults.
One last thing...I don't do Elsie Magazine for the money (it just about wipes its face) - I do it for the love of doing it, and I hope that shines through. The target I've set on Kickstarter will cover the cost of the printing and that's it. As a get rich quick scheme, Elsie has a long way to go. As a fun, creative and stimulating project...it's my favourite place to be.
Please come on board and be part of it. If you do, I'll love you forever.
Risks and challenges
I could go under a bus...and that would scupper things a bit - I don't have a contingency for that.
Other than that, we're good to go. The magazine is having the finishing touches put to it as we speak, the printer is lined up and ready - all we need is you and it's all systems go!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
