STRETCH GOAL #3 // $15,000: A new level of Dream War. I'll use this stretch goal to feature some insane instrumentation on the record--Think cello, bagpipes, saxophone!
FUNDED!! STRETCH GOAL #2 // $14,000: I'll host a livestream concert from my living room exclusively for all Dream War backers, all around the world!
FUNDED!! STRETCH GOAL #1 // $13,000: A live music video and behind the scenes footage that will be shared exclusively with Dream War backers.
100% funded!! Because of more than 200 people, we ARE making this album!! I'm so grateful I can hardly contain it! We reached the goal of $12,000 on day 9, but with almost two weeks left, there's still room for you to make Dream War better than it would be without you! $12,000 is what we needed to record the album and produce and ship rewards, and (my mind is blown!), we're already there! Now it's just a matter of better or even better. The more we raise, the greater the record will be.
THIS IS WILD. THANK YOU.
Yours, Ella // 19 October 2019
“Dream War completely blew me away. Epic. Amazing. I feel like I had a front row seat to witness the birth of a new galaxy or something. Find a way to share this with more people, Ella. It's good for the world.”
- Pete Peterson, novelist & playwright
Hi, I’m Ella Mine. I can’t WAIT to share this project with you.
I’m getting ready to record my debut record, a concept album called Dream War. It’s a full length album of fourteen original songs, but it’s really all one piece, a musical expression of the most harrowing several-year season of my life. Even though it’s intensely personal, it’s a journey that I think you’ll find connection to. If you’re worn down or scared, or if you’ve lost strength you used to have, I wrote Dream War for you.
That’s why I’m so excited to ask for your participation to make the record a reality.
I’ve given so much of myself to the music of Dream War, and I’ve been working and saving in order to make the album, but the cost of recording is higher than I can reach alone. To pull this off, in these three weeks (Oct 11-Nov 1), we need to raise USD $12,000. This funding + what I’ve saved over the last year in preparation for recording will allow us to:
- Record Dream War at the Art House Studios in Nashville
- Pay some of my favorite musicians (the band) to give up their weekends and play their hearts out
- Work with amazing Art House engineer Evan Redwine
- Print CDs, lyric books, T-Shirts, and all the other rewards
- MOST importantly, ship your rewards to you!!
You might wonder why this music is so important to me. The Dream War project began as I tried to work through some of the most difficult experiences of my life. At seventeen, I was diagnosed with a pain condition called Central Sensitization. I was prescribed a medication to fight the pain, but I had a severe, terrifying, and long-term reaction to the drug. I was overwhelmed by fear, confusion, intrusive and violent thoughts and dreams, Akathisia (an intense, constant inner restlessness and feeling that nothing will ever be alright), and a plethora of other psychoactive effects that, looking back now, leave me marvelling that I’m still alive. Whether I was asleep or awake, everything around me was like a nightmare.
The years since—to quote someone who’s been through the same thing—have been like a slow crawl out of hell.
From terror, pain, and long-lasting brain changes, Dream War emerged as an anthem for my wearied mind. I’ve been steeped in music my whole life, with years of classical piano study at Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music, followed by my college education with Charlie Peacock and Brown Bannister at Lipscomb University in Nashville. At some point, music became a second language to me, so the natural response to an experience so emotionally and mentally taxing was to play and write.
So I wrote what I needed to hear. But as the writing process progressed and as I got other musicians involved, Dream War expanded into a work that not only contains my experience, but also resonates with the stories of struggle of so many other people. It’s the record of a human journey moving from this point of devastation towards a place where we find the courage, even in a broken world, to love again.
If the Dream War project connects with you, or if you know someone who might find their own story voiced in these songs, please don’t hesitate to share this Kickstarter campaign.
I’m so grateful for your generosity. This music has so much of my heart, and I hope it will be a gift to you and serve you in your fight for life as well.
“Here is the world. Beautiful and terrible things will happen. Don’t be afraid.” —-- Frederick Buechner
