About this project
Have you ever been creeped out getting into your car at night, in fear that there may be something in the back seat? Or how about not being able to see big dark windows at night when something wicked my be lurking just on the other side? If this sends a chill down your spine, YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
For my project I am building a full-size wearable monster suit that represents these (as well as others) very common yet spooky everyday fears. This creature conceptualizes fear that everyone has. Imagine this: you are walking alone through a dimly lit parking structure late at night after work and you are a little nervous. Suddenly you think you see a shadow, but it can't be real right? Your heart races, your pace quickens, and your fear grows. What was just a shadow of fear is now slightly larger. You look away quickly from the spot you first encountered your fear, but somehow you are still moving quicker and your fear continues to increase. You get in your car, frantically, after fumbling for the keys and you look in your rear-view mirror only to see your fear has become the most terrifying creature manifestation! You are trapped! That ladies and gentlemen, is the idea of my monster: the idea of fear expands on itself to create a much more horrifying villain. This monster represents fear.
The project, if fully funded, will continue where I left off and is scheduled to end on April 14th. Already I have built "Digitigrade" Stilts, which add 12" and an unnatural leg angle to the suit-wearer, as well as mechanical hands that will give the creature long extended fingers. The suit construction will require a full body life cast of the suit operator (My friend Luke Pettygrove) to "kickstart" the revival of this project. Then on this full body replication of Luke I will sculpt the creature in full scale. After sculpting is completed, I will make fiberglass molds of the entire sculpture that will later be filled with high-quality flexible foam latex. Once the foam latex is cured, it will be removed from the molds, seamed, painted, and fitted with animatronics. The animatronics will be used to articulate the face via remote control servo motors and a remote control. These techniques and processes are professional Special Effects Industry quality, size, and scope.
Funds received from Kickstarter will pay for material costs and Backer Rewards. Because my talents are out of the ordinary, most of my rewards are such. I hope not only to ask for funding of this art, but also to give you a piece of it. One such reward is DVD that contains 5 video tutorials. To see the amount of information contained in my tutorials check out the few tutorials I have on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch... The amount of money I am asking for is the bare minimum necessary to finish the project.
The intention for this project (aside from an overkill fulfillment of my High School Senior Project requirements) is to showcase my talents, abilities, and motivation. If fully funded, this project will serve as an excellent source of satisfaction for me and my parents and late father, as well as an excellent demonstration of my capabilities for my artistic portfolio. Working in an art field has always been a life-long dream of mine and I believe I have found my niche. Please help me make this dream a reality! Thank you for your time, pledges, and consideration!
