Status Update

Hi Folks,

Just wanted to give y'all a little status update.  The download is now fixed, for anyone who's been having trouble -- I shuffled files around a few days ago on the server and forgot to repost the link.  Cody has done up a bunch of nice models for the game, and I've been working on getting the engine to render 'em correctly...  Right now the poor little dorf is quite discombobulated... =/

Still hoping to get a new Alpha for Monday the 29th -- but in the meantime, here are a few of the models to check out.

Also, to those who have wondered about the TGA format for textures -- the file has to be uncompressed, and use the top left corner as the origin.  I usually use Gimp to do 'em, and that gives the option...

But the uplifting things you say in your comments and email -- those are what will help to build a great game.  There's nothing worse than working hard on a project, unpaid for years -- only to have people rip it apart because it isn't perfect.

That being said, please realize that the Alpha going out today (yes today) is still an early stage of the game.  There are bugs -- the world is small -- Cody's models haven't made it in yet -- some features have been stripped out -- and there isn't a lot you can do, besides dig and build.

Also, as newer versions come out in the future, it may seem like little has changed...  Again, please realize that there's work going on under-the-hood -- and some things (like the fluid flow simulation) take a great deal of effort, and won't be apparent right away (it's currently disabled BTW).

Now, let's talk bugs...

First off -- the game REQUIRES 4 levels of multitexturing.  That's not a bug, that's just a requirement of the terrain rendering system.  If the game crashes right away when you try to start it -- look at the LOGFILE.TXT -- that will tell you why, and it will probably be because your graphics card doesn't have 4 levels of multitexturing.

Second -- I've tried it on a couple more machines in the last few days, and have noticed that the fullscreen mode (need to edit SETUP.TXT to enable) doesn't work quite right on some of those machines...  The cursor misbehaves and the screen flickers like mad on one.

Third -- it runs a lot slower than it should on some machines.  For next update, I think I'll put in a compatability mode that'll render the terrain in a not-as-pretty manner -- and hopefully that will address all 3 of these issues.If you have any problems running the game (and I'm sure some of you will) -- please post a comment about it here on KickStarter, and maybe include the text of your LOGFILE.TXT.  In the future, we'll come up with a better bug tracking / feature request system -- but it'll work for now.

Hi everybody!  I know I don't update as often as you guys would like, but I'd like to offer my sincerest thank you to all the supporters who made this happen.  Honestly never thought it would hit $20,000 -- let alone surpass it.  It's kinda surreal to sit down for dinner, and have another 300 bucks by the time you finish.

Anyway, the money is much appreciated -- but the excitement that's been gushing out of here is even more important...  Want to share with you the Kickstarter funding graph -- because I think it's incredible...  The first jump is when Notch tweeted about Uberdark -- so is the second...  But the third -- that last minute rally -- is all you guys!  Not sure if it was facebook likes or forum posts or people increasing their pledges, but whatever it was, it really was an avalanche.

Another big thanks to Notch for tweeting about Uberdark again -- maybe he can just buy it from me... =)  Also want to thank all of you good folks for pitching in and supporting the project, so here's another glimpse of the work Cody has been doing on the models.  Also, to those who've wondered why we're seeking $20,000, this is one big reason why -- Cody is a professional artist, and deserves to be paid accordingly.
