For years, this stop sign — graffiti and all — was at the crossroads to the Federal village.
It made me smile because somehow it encapsulated the community. In a good way. Vocal, quirky and passionate.
The narrative of a place is a powerful force for recognition.
We are the stories of where we live.
The past, present and our aspirations for the future. This is amplified in a village.
This book is my way to share the stories of this place. It our community footprint and the anthology can be a memento for visitors.
I want to share the stories — fiction and creative non fiction — written by local writers (published and unpublished) about this place we call home.
Author Kate Veitch coined the phrase 'stories without a wave' to describe this anthology as Federal is only 20 minutes from iconic Byron Bay.
Federal is a thriving village with an old church, hall, shop, cafe, tennis court and a big, yellow shed selling antiques called The Federal Treasury.
That's not to say the anthology will only include 'happy' stories. The landscape, the weather, the trees and animals and our struggles are all part of our story.
Using my experience as an author, editor and journalist, I will select and edit all stories to the highest quality.
The money raised on Kickstarter is mostly for printing. The more money, the more books we print.
Profits from book sales will go into the Federal Park fund.
That way, everyone — residents and visitors —benefit.
And when people leave they can take a little piece of Federal life with them in the Feels Like Home anthology.
Every pledge offered, will receive a Read Local book bag.

Fricken Stop Gossiping is a small project with a big heart.
I thank you for taking the time to find out more about my project and hope you feel compelled to donate some money to make this happen.
Risks and challenges
The most important aspect of this project is quality. In the writing of the original stories and in the production of the book.
A graphic design artist will be enlisted to design the cover and quality binding and paper will be used to create the book.
The cost of this can always spiral so it will be a compromise but $2870 ensures a benchmark quality.
I want this to be a keepsake book. Beautiful to read and to hold in your hands.
The challenge will be creating this without spiralling costs. My work and time is for free. The writers are offering their work for free.
The book will be sold at the the general store.
The project needs $2,870 which includes the percentage that goes to Kickstarter.
Book printing of 200 books is $1,710.
150 book bags cost $400.
Graphic design is $200.
Postage is approx $200, I will cover any extras on this.
There is $100 allocated to the book launch.
