A Community Supported Brewery quenching the thirst of Downeast Maine.
Help us get to $8500! There still time to be a backer and get a great reward!

Welcome to our Kickstarter page!
We are Al & Mia Strong and we’re building a brewery. Our goal is to bring fresh, local draft beer to our community. We love beer! It's color, aroma, and flavor its history and the brewing process.
Following the Community Supported Brewery (CSB) model, members buy a "share" of the brewery which entitles them to a weekly helping of the beer produced. Our straight forward brewing has been simple up to this point, but to go from home-brewer to professional is expensive. We have started the remodeling of the space, purchased some equipment and have begun the licensing process. But we need your help to finish what we have started.
Here is a breakdown of what the money will be used for:
- Equipment: $2533
- Space remodeling: $1300
- Malt, Hops, Yeast: $1252
- Licensing Fees: $1665
- Kickstarter Fees: $750
We consider ourselves very lucky to live in a rural area with such an amazing appreciation for the craft beer culture. We have been crafting conscientious, small-batch brews for 16 years, and host monthly community dinners, beer tastings, and F.O.A.M. (Fellowship of Ale Makers) home brew gatherings. Through these community building events we have established Strongbrew as the local benchmark for those who care about what they drink. When the farmers, fishermen, and carpenters of Hancock County want a Hancock County beer, they look to Strong Brewing Co.

Progress all around!
Update #1 · Mar 15, 2013
Well we are excited by our progress- sheet rock has gone up, the town gave us our permit and most exciting we have submitted our bond form and will be submitting the Federal and State applications in the next few days!
Wow a lot has been happening fast which makes up for those times when you feel like your standing still waiting for something to happen.
Thanks to all who have backed us so far.

Federal application, press and building!
So we have been very busy juggling a lot of things and watching our progress on kickstarter. We have hosted another tasting and sold 49 shares so far, talked to the press and meet lots of fellow craft beer lovers! Al is in the tape/spackle stage and swears he is getting better at it. And I have picked the spot for all your names (see image below) that will be on the brewery wall so everyone knows that this brewery was built by an awesome crowd-funding, beer loving, dream supporting community!
One of the most exciting and exhausting thing that has happened is we have submitted our Federal application and it is in "Initial Review" hurray! The bond was purchased and mailed and now we wait for them to tell us all the other things we need to do!
Thank you to all are backers so far. We are almost there! Lets keep the momentum going!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We are in the midst of our greatest risk and greatest challenge. We've put all our chips forward to make our vision a reality. We're asking Kickstarter supporters for a realistic amount of money that could make our fledgeling endeavor a legitimate enterprise. Once the brewery is up and running, it should generate enough revenue to sustain itself.
The backbone of Strong Brewing Co. is and always will be the CSB. In future, we hope to take on draft accounts at pubs and restaurants and bottle beer for distribution, but the spirit of Strong Brewing Co. will always be to let community members say, "that's my brewery."
