RE-FRIED Comics is a 48-page, saddle-stitch comic book collecting the best of our webcomics.
Working improv-style, we took old, public domain comics and gave them new balloons to create an all-new story.
Going one page at a time (never looking ahead), we figured out the story based on the artwork alone. Once we established something, we couldn't invalidate it. Our only rule was, "Yes, and..."
The result is something like this:
The book includes four short stories, plus:
- Fake vintage ads
- Real reader questions from Golden Age comics answered by our Fried waitress, Frieda
- A crowd-sourced story co-written by YOU on Kickstarter Live
Higher tier backers receive:
- One-of-a-kind variant covers about YOU
- Your own fake ad
- Professionally produced audio production
You unlocked stretch goals! Lucky you!
Boom! You've unlocked the Pet Memes reward.
Nailed it. You unlocked Guest Star pages, written by Friends of Fried. (See update #4).
Got it! Every print copy backer will receive the RE-FRIED Frieda print. Digital backers will receive a print-ready TIFF you can print at your leisure.
If we reach $3,000, you will receive a short RE-FRIED Story with blank balloons for you to write the captions yourself. (Pages will be loose so you don't mess up your limited edition copy of the book.)
You're over 18, but inside you are 12.
(And love it.)
You like stupid humor.
Like, seriously dumb-as-s#!t silly humor is your jam.
BAD LIP READING, THE ONION, and MAD Magazine are the height of hilarity.
RE-FRIED is a state of mind.
Are you RE-FRIED?
"I love these. Great idea and execution! Reminds me of Mad Movies or, of course, MST3K."
- D.E. Schrader, co-creator of BABY BADASS, Action Lab Danger Zone
"Any Fried Comics are good comics."
- James Powell, creator, HOUSE OF FEAR
- David Brown, happy reader
FRIED Comics is a proud purveyor of offbeat, irreverent pulp fiction since 2013, and a labor of love for Clay Adams and Alexandre O. Philippe.
Our titles range from P.B.O.W. (PREGNANT BITCHES OF WAR), DEADSKINS!, RED XMAS, and RE-FRIED COMICS. Our comics are available on Webtoons, Tapas, comiXology, Amazon, and Gumroad.
Clay Adams is a writer and filmmaker who's funded three projects on Kickstarter with FRIED Comics. His directorial debut, THE BOY SCOUT, was nominated for Best Short at the Golden Egg Film Festival in Los Angeles, and his feature script, THE ECLIPSE, placed second in the horror category of the FADEIn Awards. He has written and directed for television and holds a BFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU.
Film nerd Alexandre's most recent movie is 78/52, an acclaimed documentary about the shower scene in Psycho. He holds a Masters Degree in Dramatic Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and has written and directed numerous award-winning films and documentaries, including THE PEOPLE vs. GEORGE LUCAS, DOC OF THE DEAD, and THE LIFE AND TIMES OF PAUL THE PSYCHIC OCTOPUS.
Don't make eye contact, and just be glad the coffee isn't too hot.
Because you people are awesome!
FRIED Comics is not in the storytelling business. We're in the "community experience" business. That means we want to have fun... with you.
In fact, we want YOU to help us write an eight page story. So, join us for our Kickstarter Live sessions and get a writer credit in the book.
So far, we've successfully Kickstarted a trade paperback of PBOW and the first two issues of RED XMAS. Why wouldn't we come back for more?
Fair enough. What will you do with the money?
First, we'll roll up each bill and snort a buttload of Pixie Stix.
- Pay Kickstarter taxes and fees
- Pay for printing
- Pay for shipping
- If we're fortunate enough to raise more than our goal, we'll use what's left over to make more comics.
Still not sure?
We know asking you to fork over your hard-earned money is a big deal. So we're gonna give you a big free preview.
The Add-On Menu:
To add items, simply click "Manage Pledge," then add the amount of your add-on item to the pledge level you've selected.
(Yes, sorry, this involves math.)
If you purchased a digital-only tier, but still want to add FRIED Digital Trades, adjust your pledges according your selection below:
Or, if you got a print tier and want some of our other books in print, do this:
Our Evil Plan:
- The Kickstarter Campaign: 4 Weeks (June 5-June 29)
- Kickstarter Funds Released: ~July 14
- Digital Rewards Released: early August
- Book Goes to Printer: ~August 15
- Book Printed and shipped to Fried Diner - 8-10 Weeks (~Oct 31)
- "$#it happens" buffer - 2 Weeks (~Nov 14)
- Frieda and our sweatshop workers (AKA Frieda's kids) pack and ship - (~Nov 14-Nov 30)
- Expected delivery to US backers - 2 Weeks (Early Dec)
- Expected delivery for International Backers - 4 Weeks (late Dec)
We're not asking for a million dollars.
We just want to have fun, put a cool book in your hand, and entertain you a bit.
So find a pledge level you like and pre-order. We'll make more comics.
And, as always, if you leave a comment on our Kickstarter page that says, "Frieda sent me," we'll send you an extra-special gift.
Oh! And finally:
Like criminals, we are a cowardly and superstitious lot.
We heard somewhere that Kickstarter campaigns do better when they have pictures of cats on the page. So, here's a picture of Frieda's cat, Asshole.
Thanks for supporting! And remember...
Risks and challenges
Except for the crowd-sourced story, the book is done.
We have our printer lined up and are rarin' to go.
We've already successfully fulfilled three campaigns (on time, even!), so we feel like we got this.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
