About

Project Summary

The Everything Waffles publication follows the characters developed from portraits found on the web. Originally this project followed the portraits with my cat, Waffles. This large comic book style production will use the influences from pop culture. The first issue will follow the comic book based movies coming out this summer of 2012. The pages will use the portraiture made with Waffles to create a story through a single issue. This first issue with take our central character into the world of superheros and villains as he deals with the ramifications. The characters you find on everythingwaffles.com might just find there way into this first issue.

Furthermore the advertising found in comic books and magazines will be commented on. You may just find a mask or free cologne sample within these pages to enhance your experience. All images will be either photographs or rotoscoped from photographs taken to create the project. The goal is to have the comic book to be printed at the end of July 2012 and be ready for shipment soon after.

This large publication will produce a series of 6.75"x 10.25"(comic book sized) issues that create a story following these characters reinterpreted from popular culture. Each publication will contain 14-20 pages, similar to comics, and be a full-length developed story. Each issue will have 100 copies printed in full-color.

Project History

The original portrait series followed comparisons made between myself and those I choose to appropriate portraits from. In July 2010 I created my own portrait studio in order to recreate some of the portraits online using Waffles as a character in each of them. The first photograph I used, Lawrence, remains the only image actually containing a cat in the original photograph. Following this image I collected many popularized photos and iconic characters from around the web to reinterpret into my portraits. These images were all recreated by using my cat as a way to merge these two popularized Internet genres into a single frame.

Where the Money Goes

These funds go directly into the printing and publication of creating a years worth of publications. Unlike the Everything Waffles Monthly, this project will be professionally printed and produced. I don't mind the DIY appeal of the past publications however I would like this series to stand out from the rest.

Printing: $600

Advertising: $200

Mailing: $100

If the goal is not reached by the deadline the project will be downsized to fit the amount received. Therefore if I receive half of the goal, each issue will only have 50 copies printed. The final donations reached therefore will influence the amount produced.

Answering the Call

This project began in 2010 and I would want nothing more to see this project where it deserves to become. The projects have existed on everythingwaffles.com as a parody of images and videos found throughout the web. These images are easy to relate to and if you do not have interest in the pop culture reference you can still enjoy the recreation of the images. This comic will be humorous and rewarding for those who enjoy the physical copy of a publication.
