Mythos Tales is a game of macabre detection and Lovecraftian horror for 1 - 8 players by Hal Eccles and Will Kenyon. In Mythos Tales, players take on the role of private investigators in Lovecraft’s Arkham, tasked with solving a series horrifying mysteries. As detectives, players may either play competitively, or players may play cooperatively against Miskatonic's erudite librarian, Dr. Henry Armitage, pitting wits against a master detective! Each investigation takes between 60-120 minutes to complete, and the game will include 8 investigations.
The Kickstarter Edition of Mythos Tales
By backing Mythos Tales on Kickstarter, you'll be getting a hardcover, full color edition of the Casebook for the game. The hardcover edition will become softcover for retail. If you want the hardcover edition and possible 9th and 10th cases, please consider helping fund the game by supporting this campaign!
Players will be tasked with solving 8 distinct Investigations, which will be progressively more difficult.
- Investigation 1 - A Grain of Evil
- Investigation 2 - The King Cometh
- Investigation 3 - The Serpent's Vengeance
- Investigation 4 - The Slumbering Solace
- Investigation 5 - The Vanished Girl
- Investigation 6 - The Liber Mortis
- Investigation 7 - The Faceless Expedition
- Investigation 8 - A Stalker in the Shadows

A New Look for Great Original Material
Many of you have already solved the first two cases, as they were presented online for quite some time. You may be wondering what design changes have gone into the cases. Well, artist Edu Torres has done an amazing job adding art to each of the investigations and coming up with a new layout.
You can download the new draft version of Investigation 1 - A Grain of Evil here.
About the Authors
Hal Eccles grew up on a diet of Fighting Fantasy game books, D&D, boardgames like Dark Tower, and wargames from a certain small (at the time) Nottingham studio. With a keen love of mysteries, crime fiction, and a degree in Archaeology under his belt, he is now a family man with a very patient, amazing wife and three beautiful children. A fortuitous discovery of the works H.P. Lovecraft, after stumbling over the ‘what you should have read…’ section of everyone’s favorite horror roleplaying game, led to many ventures in creative writing. He has already ticked one item off his 'bucket list’ by contributing a chapter to the recent successful Kickstarter ‘Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion’ campaign supplement. He began designing games primarily to continue the shared ‘investigating a mystery’ experience with his wife, brother, and sister-in-law. From that point, Mythos Tales was always going to rise like a batrachian monstrosity from the deep, to steal into the minds of those who fall under its influence. He currently resides in the Northwest of England and works full time as a Specialist Leader in Education for History, and also the Humanities Faculty Head at a outstanding High School.
For more than 15 years, Will Kenyon has been a freelance writer and editor operating out of New York City and Atlanta. He’s managed to publish a number of poems and a handful of short stories over the years, and has worked for such high profile clientele as Smithsonian, Martha Stewart Omnimedia, Cisco Systems, and Conde Nast. Will rolled his first 20-sided die in the early 80s, and has been an avid gamer ever since, his greatest love being board games. Over the years, he dabbled in game creation and design, working as a writer for the now defunct Iron Crown Enterprises and as a playtester and product champion for I.C.E. as well as Decipher’s Star Wars and Lord of The Rings CCGs. Around two years ago, he turned his attention to the arduous task of designing games himself. In March 2015, 8th Summit games approached him to take over the writing, design, and development of two of their most promising future projects: Mythos Tales and The Little Adventurers’ Club. Mythos Tales is a role-playing deduction game modeled on the 80s best-seller Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective, but based in the incredible, dark world imagined by H.P. Lovecraft. The Little Adventurers’ Club is a story-telling board game for children aged 5-10. Both titles are slated to be published in early to mid 2016.
Christopher's bio is on its way! Christopher is sole author of one of the cases, and is co-writer with Will Kenyon on a second case. More information to follow....

SPECIAL PRICING FOR BACKERS OF MYTHOS TALES ON OUR OTHER GAMES. Pricing only good until the end of this campaign. Click to buy and have them shipped immediately. Do not add to your pledge to purchase. Free USA shipping.
ADDITIONAL GAMES MUST BE ORDERED FROM THE WEBSITE AND WILL SHIP IMMEDIATELY. NO WAITING! AND FREE USA SHIPPING.
NOTE ON INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE ESTIMATED QUOTES BELOW ARE A MINIMUM AND THE FINAL COST MAY BE HIGHER. It is highly unlikely shipping costs will be below the lower ranger of what's shown in the graphic. Shipping estimates are also unlikely to change before the end of the campaign. If the final shipping rates fall above estimated costs below, we will fully refund your pledge. SHIPPING RATES WILL NOT BE LOWER THAN THE ESTIMATED SHIPPING PRESENTED HERE. We are not able to lower these rate for anyone.
We have fulfillment for the EU. We are talking to a company in Canada and are confident they will be able to offer the lower cost fulfillment. We do not have fulfillment for other countries.
Please note that shipping is NO RISK FOR INTERNATIONAL BACKERS. If you want a refund due to shipping costs, we will issue a full refund.
Wait a minute - I thought this game was named something else previously. Why the change?
You're right. The game was originally called something else, but it turns out that another company claimed owned the rights to it. We wanted to make sure we were compliant, so we changed the name to avoid any legal conflict. Although the name has changed, I can assure you it's the same great game!
Is the game cooperative or competitive?
The short answer is it can be both! Players can work together to come up with the best possible score for solving a case, or can work individually to compete for the high score. Either way, you'll have a blast!
Is this project EU friendly?
We will gladly ship to the European Union, and have partnered with Spiral Galaxy for fulfillment. If for any reason this partnership falls through, we will notify EU backers and refund full purchase cost. For more information about shipping, see above.
What is the situation with shipping?
Shipping on a huge scale is always a challenge. For US backers, shipping is set at $10. We've offset the cost of the game to accommodate shipping (the game will retail for around $40-50).
For international backers, we have to keep distance and package weight in mind. We've estimated the weight of the package to be around 5 lbs. International shipping fluctuates wildly, so we are offering a best estimate of shipping, but costs may go up or down. For this reason, we'll charge shipping at the end to make sure we're providing an accurate charge for shipping.
Will game be available in a variety of languages?
We would love to provide the game in as many languages as possible. That said, the game is only available in English for now. If we receive word of any interested parties providing translation for us, we'll let you know!
Can I add multiple copies to my order?
Absolutely. Just add an additional $40 USD per copy, as well as additional shipping for the extra product.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes. If you have second thoughts after funding Mythos Tales, we will refund the full cost of the game minus any Kickstarter fees. For international backers, we'll refund the full cost of the game without deducting Kickstarter fees.
I have a question that wasn't answered here. What do I do?
Please messages us directly on Kickstarter. We will be monitoring the forums, but the best way to get your issue addressed is through direct message.
IMPORTANT: Please realize that final game components, box and artwork may differ somewhat from the components represented here, as we put final touches on graphic design to send to printer. Product files are mostly finished but may change in final preparation. Also we would like you to note that if the stretch goal or feature is not offered on this page, it is not officially part of this campaign. This excludes external information you have read in forums on comment sections or the updates. If we don't offer it here, it is not being offered.
Risks and challenges
While every project has risks, we've done our best to minimize any complications. We have established solid ties to manufactures and retailers within the industry. 8th Summit has published over ten games, expansions and supplements and we have learned with each publication.
Shipping is always a risk, especially when shipping international orders. Recently, the United States Postal Service raised its prices for sending international packages. We will do our best to accurately predict shipping costs, but be aware that shipping prices can change suddenly, and we may need to ask for more to be able to send the package out to you. If that doesn't work for you, we will gladly process a refund.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
