8static Festival is October 17,18,19th in Philadelphia
8static has been promoting an eclectic collection of genres and styles of Chip Music and Chiptune for the past five years. Not just a dance party, 8static incorporates workshops to educate our audience on the subtleties and technical processes of creating Chip Music. We don't stick to just one genre, rather we consider Chip Music an instrument and keep an open mind on style. Our show has been attracting people to Philadelphia and inspiring creativity every month since October 2008.
We've reached the point where we've outgrown our current venue and are ready to LEVEL UP our show in many different ways. The culmination of all this experience is 8static Festival, a three day event unlike anything ever seen in Philadelphia.
We need some support to be able to expand our technical abilities to provide a better show, for Philly and for those who tune into our stream and attend the show from around the world. Your contribution will go towards upgrading our audio and video streaming capabilities to deliver the highest quality live Chip Music experience, both in Philadelphia and online. We've already got a ton of momentum, but we need your help to take it to the next level!
FOR THE FEST
8static Festival will take place at the historic First Unitarian Church. We are raising funds to dedicate more resources in 3 key areas: Performers, Personnel, Equipment. We'll use the money to book bigger and brighter Chip Music stars, and cover their travel expenses. We'll need extra venue personnel, to ensure smooth changeovers and a comfortable experience for our attendees. And lastly, we'll need equipment to power-up our sound and visual system to provide a truly immersive Chip Music experience.
EQUIPMENT DETAILS (A TECHNICAL RANT)
We're moving out of the venue that's been our monthly home for almost a year and as consequence we'll need to replace the gear they were providing. There is a silver-lining to this, we'll be able to buy new equipment that is best suited to Chip Music. We also have some repairs to make, we need to replace several amps and reconstruct our current mains. We also want to upgrade to a brighter projector - allowing us to project on darker surfaces at remote gigs. We've planned to get a new set of HD webcams to deliver a multi-camera live stream to everyone who is attending online! Most people who have been listening on our Arecibo radio stream have only been experiencing half of the show - each event has a dedicated visualist who works hard for the entire duration of the event. We feel strongly that live visuals are a critical part of Chip Music, and these upgrades will allow use to stream everyone's hard work, both audio and visual. Your contribution will not just help us, but all of our performers and everyone in the audience.
We want a permanent place where we can customize a stage and create unique artistic installations for the performers. Everything we're planning on purchasing and customizing with this Kickstarter can be adapted to other venues or used to create our own. 8static has been a host to some incredible Chip Musicians over the past five years, and we want to keep that tradition going strong!

WE HAVE SOME AMAZING REWARDS!
*Our previous compilation from the last kickstarter
*A New Live Album: recorded directly off the sound board and mixed with the room mics - you've never heard chip music sound this good! It will feature 24 tracks from 8static performances. We have been steadily recording the shows off the sound board for the last year and this project is the culmination of a lot of hard work! This album will be personally curated and produced by Dino Lionetti of Cheap Dinosaurs.
*Collections of Limited Edition Door Stickers (and some other fun ones)
*Dain Saint "Peices of 8"
*DJ Cutman's Lost Beats and Found Friends
*Steam codes for Cipher Prime's game "Splice"
*Storm Blooper "Jawn-Dis" album. Comes with source sav files and custom LSDJ kits.
*Amazing shirts in two different color schemes: green blue or red pink!
*A Custom noise maker with 8static logo etched into the pcb called the "eradic8or." Why clap at our events when you can send a square wave back! We'll post the first unit shorty. This is just the prototype on a breadboard. Eventually it will have it's own circuit board, speaker and headphone jack - we might add a distortion circuit as well... made by theDutchess and animal style
*A Custom midi controller made by SKGB... here are a few examples:
*YOUR NAME scrolled (8bit style) in a custom program (Mac Linux PC) in between acts at the festival.
*Custom PCB Plaque - pixel art 8static graphic printed on a circuit board with your name (and all donors at this level) etched in.
*Festival Passes! *Special Donor Badge
*Entrance to 8static's monthly event for 12 months! 8static VIP badge.
*personal 1hr Skype NES programming lessons from Don Miller aka NO CARRIER - comes with the source for several custom programs he wrote.
*Animal Style's modded foot controller gameboy used in the 2008 Blip Festival - this unit is not functional without the breakout box and does not include the breakoutbox. It's something to hang on the wall and to keep as a collectors item.
*Animal Style'sFXDoctor guitar pedal used in just about every gameboy recording and show since 2005 - this includes Blip Festival 2009
*Dino Lionetti's Gameboy (Cheap Dinosaurs) used at Blip Fest Europe This thing has major issues! Grab a piece of Blip Festival History!
Risks and challenges
The greatest risk for us is not being able to put on a Chip Music show that meets our standards. We've already received sponsorship for 8static Fest from Philly Game Lab, so even without this Kickstarter we'll be putting on a great show. We've confirmed some of our favorite musician and visualists, but there's a lot of room to make 8static Fest truly amazing. We think this campaign is an awesome opportunity to get some unique rewards and help bolster the already fantastic Philadelphia Chip Music scene. We hope you decide to contribute, see you in October!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
