THESportsTechie eBook - Intro To: Sports Tech and THE Sports Techie Online Community
Sports Techie is THE trusted voice, online community and global resource for all things sports technology via sport tech blog website: www.sportstechie.net. I am @THESportsTechie at @SportsTechieNET.
This nonfiction eBook is about the exploding sports technology industry and an autobiographical look at my 50 years in the business culminating in the launch of THE Sports Techie online community on the web. I have written hundreds of sports tech related blogs the past six years using my social media network to grow our global following and readership to over 25,000 people around the world while compiling nearly 100,000 tweets on Twitter to make my original business vision come to life.
How your pledge is distributed per my Kickstarter eBook project
• eBook costs such as purchasing publishing software, logo and cover design cost, and editing fees
• Trademarking - THESportsTechie
• Up to 10% fee via Kickstarter for using crowdsourcing platform
• Use remainder of raised funds to begin design of the first THESportsTechie OEM product, an interactive app for young autistic kids (my 3-year son is on the spectrum) and their parents helping to learn the basics of how to walk, run, jump, climb, throw, kick, and even swim.
Sports tech is an industry that few really relatively know much about.
My educated and experience-driven guess as to the size of the sports tech industry is around $600 billion although that may be selling it short. I wrote a blog about the Australian Sports Technologies Network in 2012 that estimated market value near $200 billion before the industry went mainstream. When you breakdown my broad definition of sports technology, it includes in no certain order - fitness trackers, sports analytics, Super Bowl, pets, eSports http://sportstechie.net/?s=eSports, virtual reality, social media http://sportstechie.net/?s=social+media, drone racing, robotic competitions, America’s Cup, concussions http://sportstechie.net/?s=concussion, retractable roofs, smart stadium http://sportstechie.net/?s=stadium, cyber sport, apparel, shoes, wingsuit, eBikes, fan experience http://sportstechie.net/?s=fan+experience, swimming, statistics, horse racing, wave machines, moto, OTT http://sportstechie.net/?s=OTT, Paralympics, sports book, consoles, iGaming, jobs, tailgating, education degrees, medical, sponsorship, running, ticketing http://sportstechie.net/?s=ticketing, vehicles, boarding, airplanes, action cams, extreme sports, winter and water sports, youth, amateur and professional sports, and even space, the final frontier for fellow Trekkie; it is both massive and fragmented.
This is why my eBook will help define the industry for curious readers.
Who am I?
I am a Peace Corp baby that grew up both in Spartan Village near the campus of Michigan State University and down the street from Microsoft in the late 1960’s and ‘70s.
As you read through the chapters, know that I have been blessed to work alongside my childhood idol, Ervin “Magic” Johnson, as well as work inspiration, Paul Allen, Microsoft co-founder and Seahawks owner.
I was the Director of Sales for Sports 2000 in 1997 and literally by myself using dial up AOL internet and football stamps, helped inform NFL, college, high school, and youth football legends the likes of Bill Walsh, John Gruden and Nick Saban about the GridIron 2000 expert game planning system operating on Windows 95. This revolutionary software was co-developed by the Seattle Seahawks and company founder, Colonel James Thomes. This revolutionary product at the time was on the forefront of capturing big data, mining sports analytics and using virtual reality for training. The infamous "Phantom Touchdown" by the New York Jets versus the Hawks changed the path of instant replay in the NFL and the company future.
SportsTandT, short for SportsTechnologyandTraining, was my first startup in 1999, It was a sport training application internet company founded with partners from Wizbang Software, the video game creators (with Microsoft) of Baseball 2000 and 2001 for the PC. I was responsible for all aspects of business prospect development and branding, including site content, market analysis, software licensing, identification of revenue streams, and fund raising. We developed a unique, interactive CD-Rom of the company business plan. I recruited and assembled an expert advisory team in the fields of instructional software, 3-D video simulation, animation, digital and wireless technology, web, and on-line education. Our Board of Directors included the current GM of the New Orleans Saints and the former Director of Coaching Development for US Soccer.
Being a sports and entertainment Moderator for Wetpaint http://www.wetpaint.com/, a Seattle startup, allowed me to work together with clients such as the New York Giants, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Thrashers, Big East Basketball Conference, Dancing With The Stars, HBO Entourage, along with several SyFy Channel shows.
This digital sports tech job helped me form the idea of launching an online community around the vertical of sports technology and topics important to me such as sustainability, animals and robotics.
Today, I am the six-year Founder and CEO, of Sports Techie, LLC at @SportsTechieNET on Twitter, known throughout the world as the trusted resource for sports technology, making me truly @THESportsTechie.
As THESportsTechie, I have been a major part and influencer of sports technology history.
It was an honor to be chosen as an official blogger at the Global Sports Forum Barcelona 2012. I had breakfast with London 2012 Paralympics star and convicted murderer, Oscar Pistorius. I met Hope Solo in a crowded press room where she walked across to be near me after I told her I was from Seattle, obviously much before she was suspended from the US Soccer women's national team for controversial remarks she made at the Rio 2016 Olympic games. I also engaged with NYG’s captain, Justin Tuck, now my second favorite NFL team after the Hawks.
I have been a Contributor for IQ by Intel and Skyword: Ticketing Today, part of the Citi Every Step of the Way influencer program, and a Kia Social Club and SportsBlog blogger.

This past summer, I scratched a bucket list check when asked by IBM to cover the IBM Interconnect 2016 event in Las Vegas with blogs and social posts, and happily sat in the second row for an exclusive Elton John concert at the new T-Mobile arena. http://sportstechie.net/ibm-sports-tech-twitter-chat-with-sports-techie-and-ibmer-jim-rushton/

My son is diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. Many other parents share this troubling diagnosis that is not curable, yet. Often, these loving, generation Z children have trouble performing daily tasks we take for granted like being able to walk, run, jump, climb, throw, and swim. Most of these young kids love to engage with technological products and apps, especially on digital devices like the iPhone or Android smartphones, or tablets such as the iPad.
On behalf of Kellan and the autism community, I will appropriate any funds pledged beyond those allocated to the eBook project goal to create an interactive app designed for autistic kids and parents to help them learn these fun and life changing activities.

"My friendship with Bob Roble spans two decades, and includes exploring many innovative ideas with him in the exploding field of Sports Technology. It is exciting to see someone with such enthusiasm, and commitment to his dreams of presenting proposals to Professional Sports Organizations and beyond:
· Futuristic Sports Technology
· Sports Science and
In addition, it has been my pleasure to witness Bob’s character development though the years, to share my career experiences with him, new ways of doing old things, and to be his friend. Yes - it was always good to see him when I had Masters Competitions in Seattle.
Over the years, we’ve stayed in close contact through social media channels enabling me to watch him continue to grow as a person, and Father to Kellan.
Bob is indeed a Future Thinker, A consummate Sports Techie in the Exploding Global Sports Techie online community, and best of all a Great Father"

"I met Bob in 1999 when we were both bidding for a chance to provide the Seattle Seahawks with computer-based training systems. We decided to join forces for this proposal, building on my company’s expertise in games and simulations (Wizbang Software Productions, Inc) and Bob’s sports business savvy and marketing skills. While that opportunity never materialized it gave me a chance to get to know Bob and see him in action. I was quickly impressed with his open and outgoing personality, which, when combined with his sales skills seemed to opened doors for us where ever we went.
Bob and Wizbang subsequently teamed up on a project of our own, a company we called ST&T, Sports Technology and Training whose focus was online sports training aimed at amateur athletics. Together we built a business plan and professional presentation. Bob single-handedly pulled in an impressive group of professional athletes and business people to be on our board of advisers and then managed to attract an array of bankers, angels and other potential investors to whom we pitched our plan. Unfortunately our timing was off. That was the start of the .com bust.
I highly recommend Bob as a great business development person. Business development, of course, is all about networking and developing relationships. I’ve never met anyone who is as good at that as Bob. I was also impressed with his understanding and appreciation of technology. Although not a professional technologist, he has vision and good instincts and understands how technology can be used as tool."
Risks and challenges
I already took the biggest risk by stepping into the crowdfunding digital light on Kickstarter in order to ask for your support of my eBook project.
The sports tech industry is massive, fragmented and virtually untold, it needs a respected, trusted and proven voice to tell you all about it.
After 50 years on this planet, over three decades as a sports technologist, and six years blogging about sports technology and topics that are dear to me such as, pets, environment and robots, it only takes 125 followers, readers and strangers to make this so in less than 30 days time.
Through your support we will surpass my project goal enabling me to begin creating THESportsTechie autism app with any additional funds.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
