We are excited to announce that the long-awaited The Jim Henson Exhibition opens Saturday, July 22, thanks in large part to all of your support!

This dynamic visitor experience—housed in a new gallery space funded by the City of New York—explores Henson’s groundbreaking work for film and television and his transformative impact on popular culture. The exhibition features a broad range of artifacts from throughout his remarkable television and film career, and reveals how Henson and his team of builders, performers, and writers brought to life the enduringly popular worlds of The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, and Labyrinth. It also includes material from Henson’s lesser known and experimental film projects, presenting Henson as a restlessly creative performer, filmmaker, and technical innovator.

Among the nearly 300 objects on view in The Jim Henson Exhibition are 47 puppets—including Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Rowlf, The Swedish Chef, Statler, Waldorf, Big Bird, Elmo, Cantus Fraggle, a Skeksis, and other popular favorites—character sketches, storyboards, scripts, photographs, and iconic costumes. Film and television clips and behind-the-scenes footage are presented on more than 27 monitors and projections throughout. Interactive experiences allow visitors to try their hand at puppeteering on screen and designing a puppet character. Complementing the exhibition, the Museum will present an array of education programs and public events.

On May 24, you posted that you would send out surveys by May 26 that included information about when the receptions will be. Did that survey go out? I haven't received one. Where can I find information about the reception, since I will be traveling to attend and need to know the timing. Thanks!

Part of my reward includes a VIP reception ticket. I know it would be a lot of people but that only includes entrance for one or one and a guest? I want to attend but would rather not be in a sea of "strangers" in NYC. Is there any option to bring a companion?

Are there any updates on the VIP reception opening party date? With so many contributors will there be a few? Thanks much.

      Hi Zachary,

Good questions! We included an estimated delivery of October for rewards that required the exhibit to be open simply because that was the latest the exhibit would open, and at the start of the campaign we could not yet determine an exact date. Since we're now opening the exhibit in July, your tickets will coordinate with that opening.

To answer your other question, there will be screenings during the opening events and on opening day. We're currently solidifying all events associated with the opening.

      Best,
      Jessica

      Hello again,

What will some of the events be on the opening day exhibit on July 22nd? Any screenings of any kind? Thank you.

      Hello,

I am glad to see that the opening is on July 22nd. However I am curious about one thing. For the pledge that I made of $25, it is saying that the delivery will be in October. Does that mean I will not be able to attend the July opening until delivery in October? Thank you.

      Hi Deep Fry,

We understand that many of you will be traveling to attend either the opening reception or the VIP reception and are currently working on sending out backer surveys. The surveys will go out by Friday and will include information about when the receptions will be. Hang in there, we are doing our best to get this information to you ASAP!

      Best,
      Jessica

If the Kickstarter backer opening reception / VIP reception will be happening on a date other than July 22, it would be great to know the date(s) even in the absence of other details for those of us who may need to make travel plans. Thanks very much, and looking forward to it!

      Hi Rob,

Opening festivities for our Kickstarter backers will be separate from the exhibit's public opening. Stay tuned, more details coming soon!

      Best,
      Jessica

HI. So this is great for July 22! So I need to ask for all of us who backed this ? Are there going to be like 1000 people on the opening day since we are invited to the opening or will this be segmented differently by who gave first or how much ? Ty, R
