Project Amy. Winner of "Best Quality of Art" award in Game Connection America 2016

Project Amy was awarded "Best Quality of Art" during Game Connection America 2016

Like the great game "Life is Strange", Project Amy is an adventure game divided in two seasons. This KS has been launched to make the first one (and all the gameplay base for the following ones).

Our game tells the story of a group of four friends who are playing by a fishermen’s cabin in the town of Silver Creek, when they suddenly hear what sounds like three gunshots.  The friends approach the small cabin, and when they look inside through one of the windows, they witness the local jewelry store owner, rumored to have been involved in various shady business dealings around town, dragging himself across the floor. As the jeweler takes his last breaths, he struggles to hide a little stuffed bunny rabbit toy. This makes the kids very suspicious.

Why would the jewelry shop owner be struggling to hide a stuffed animal right before he dies?

At that very moment, the shooters sneak up on the group of friends, who manage to escape, thanks in part to the fact that the police arrive at the scene very quickly.

After a few days, once the murderers have been arrested, the four friends and John’s big brother sneak into the cabin where the murder took place to try and find the stuffed animal hidden by the jewelry shop owner. Eventually they find it but are disappointed to realize it is nothing more than a plain little fuzzy toy. There is nothing special about it. However, thanks to Billy and his love for movies and TV shows about crimes, they take a closer look and find a slip of paper concealed inside the stuffed bunny, showing where a huge stash of jewels has been hidden away, all originally owned by Jewish families before World War II. This is surely what the killers had come searching for. At that very moment, the four friends, led by Amy, decide to set off on a great adventure in search of these gems.

As we have already mentioned, the game is based mainly on exploration and decision-making. At certain points, players will also have to use all the skill they can muster at the controls, having to push just the right buttons on the screen at exactly the right time (Quick Time Events) to avoid such pitfalls as causing the main character to suffer a tragic end, forcing them to start the game over again from the last game save checkpoint. Because the different characters’ personalities and skills vary, there are times when players have to decide which character is best to play with for the task at hand. For example, Amy is a fearless, adventurous girl who loves to be constantly investigating the things she finds, so it would be more advisable to choose her to reach some high-up perch than it would be to select Bob, a skittish, chubby boy who also happens to be afraid of heights. The game is at all times shown from a third-person camera perspective, except while you are inspecting specific objects, when a first-person viewpoint is used instead.

What is the game about?

The game is based on exploration and decision-making. Players will have to figure out how to use each of the main characters’ skills and when to do so. .

What about the game keeps players motivated to keep moving forward?

Because of its plot and the wide range of situations players will encounter, coupled with the different endings to the game, each coming about as a result of the decisions made by players, they will feel compelled to keep on playing, and even to start playing over again from the beginning more than once so they can find out what happens when they make different decisions along the way.

Is there any sort of combat in the game?

No, though there will be moments when you have to perform certain actions similar to combat, which you do by activating a series of buttons just at the right time. (Quick Time Events).

Does the game use virtual reality?

No, the game is designed exclusively for being played in a traditional way.

Is there any sort of inventory?

Yes, there is a small inventory where you store all the items essential to the story.

Can you control any of the characters you wish at any time?

Yes, you can switch from controlling one character to another whenever you want. That way you can deal with the different challenges by choosing the different characters based on their skills. By doing this, players are forced to figure out how to use one character or another and learn what their specific abilities are.

John

You might say John is Amy’s best friend, because his hobbies are pretty similar to hers and they spend long days in each other’s company. John could be described as a tall, handsome, athletic guy. Despite this, he is a rather shy, reserved boy. He is a major fan of comics, video games and fantasy literature, and he loves playing role games. He is also a big athlete and soccer player, which has made him a very popular guy at school.

Billy

Like Amy, Billy is one of the most fearless and adventurous members of the group. These qualities come from being a big fan of TV shows and movies about crimes and police. His father’s job is behind his adventurous spirit, too, since his dad is one of the sheriff’s deputies, and Billy’s biggest dream is to become a policeman. Coupled with his love of weapons and a fearless personality, he has come to be known as the “officially crazy” member of the group. He is a very thin-looking, disheveled kid who always carries around a small bag filled with miscellaneous tools and utensils. According to Billy, he hauls this stuff with him to make sure he can come out of any situation unscathed.

Bob

Bob is a rather short, chubby guy with a voracious appetite. He is considered the most skittish member of the group, because he is quick to run away when faced with any situation he considers dangerous. He is a comical boy who is fun to talk with. He can spend hours talking on and on about any topic, especially food. Bob is a huge fan of video games, but his love of physical exercise is less clear. In fact, Bob tries to avoid such activity at all costs, and everyone is aware that he is a bit clumsy and out of shape.

Mike

Mike is John’s big brother. Because of a trip their parents have taken, Mike has become John’s “babysitter” while they are away. He has just turned 18 and spends almost all of his time working out so that he’ll look more attractive to girls his age. Mike is tall and buff, but he isn’t very smart and usually wears nothing but athletic clothes.

Risks and challenges

FINANCIAL RISK:

Making a high quality game means having profesionals with large experience working on it. The highest amount of the funds will go to pay them. Delays are possible, therefore they could increase the costs. We had this in mind so our calcs are based on possible delays to be covered in this case.

SCHEDULE DELAYS:

Development will take 2 years to finish the first season (as the gameplay base needs to be made). After this season, next seasons should take less time as they will use the same base as this one.

GAMEPLAY CHANGES:

During the production stage, changes in gameplay may be done to make it funner. This is common when you make a game.
