About

Give Tri-Deck a try!

A twist to a traditional set of cards. I created these cards to make cards a little more complex. Now when you are looking at your cards your focus is on three things (thus being called Tri-Deck). The three things being numbers, colours and shapes. There is 65 cards in a deck. 64 being all the combinations of 4 numbers, 4 colours and 4 shapes. Last card is the Joker represented by the Black Star card.

In the games I've created, one being called Double Quad Run and the other Pay the Pot.

Double Quad Run

 The object of the game is to be the player remaining with at least one life left. You get three lives that you can represent with poker chips or three marks on a pad of paper. The dealer deals out 4 cards to each player and then flips up the top card and places it beside the deck. The person after the dealer going clockwise gets to go first. That player can either pick up the face up card or take the top card from the deck and then discards one card. The ranking of hands that you are trying to get are;

Double Quad Run – best hand possible, ie: 4 blue circles with a run of 1,2,3,4.

Triple Run- ie: 1,2,3,4 and 4 different colors and 4 different shapes.

Quad Double Run- ie: 4 green cards and run of 1,2,3,4 and run of 4 different shapes

Double Quad – ie: 4 threes and 4 red cards.

Quad Run – ie: 4 yellow cards and a run of 1,2,3,4.

Double Run- ie: 4 different colors and 4 different shapes.

Quad- ie:4 twos or 4 red cards.

Run- ie: 4 different colors or 1,2,3,4 or 4 different shapes.

The minimum laydown requirement on your turn is a Double Run or better. On your turn you can pick from the cards face up or on the deck , or you can laydown your hand with at least a starting requirement of a Double Run. Then the remaining players have one more turn each to try and complete their hand before showdown. Once all turns have been taken everyone reveals their cards and the person with the worst hand loses a life.

If the person that laid down loses/ties to all other players then that player loses two lives. If there is a tie between the worst hands then each player in the tie loses a life. There is no three of a kind or 2 pair tie breakers. You can use 5 lives for a longer game. The winner is the last player remaining!

 Game: Pay The Pot

You’ll need chips for this game. 50 to 100 big blinds in chips. This is a no limit game. Game plays similar to Omaha where you get four cards and there are community cards. Everyone gets dealt 4 cards and you have a big and small blind. Once every player receives their 4 cards the top card of the deck is turned face up. This is the first of 4 community cards.

Same hand rankings as the Double Quad Run game. You can use two cards from your hand and 2 cards from the community cards to make your hand. The player in front of the big blind can check, bet or fold. Once everyone has played then another community card is turned over. Again betting is done. If you choose to fold, keep your cards face down with you. On the 3rd community card the players that have previously folded have a chance to buy back into the hand with their folded cards by paying the pot. By paying 10 big blinds to the pot you’re back in. If you don’t have 10 big blinds, you can go all in and win half the pot with the other half going to the next best hand.

Then normal play ensues and once the betting is finished the 4th and final card is flipped up. Bets are made one last time and then its showdown for the remaining players. Best hand wins and ties split the pot!

Risks and challenges

The risks are not that big thanks to Kickstarter! I guess the toughest part is staying organized and making sure each step is completed in the proper order. Any problem that comes my way will be dealt with accordingly. I won't throw my hands in the air and give up. There are answers, just a matter of figuring it out. The mind is good at that.

Please visit www.customizedplayingcards.com where the cards will be produced. The cards will be made of a high quality 300 gsm with a linen finish. The staff at Quality Playing Cards and Games give outstanding service and are happy to answer your questions and concerns.
