If you don't know me.
My name is Isaac Jorgensen. I spent 10 years with a band called Foolish Things (formerly inpop records.) We traveled the U.S. playing concerts and preaching the gospel together. After that season of life finished up, I spent several years working as a pastor in Denver, Colorado. During that time I continued to do music along with bible teaching, evangelism, counseling, and whatever else. About a year and a half ago, the Lord led my wife and I and our kids to move to Stockholm to serve the Kingdom of God here. We have started a church in our house and I teach and play music at other churches and events here as well.
What I'm doing.
My kickstarter project isn't so much about starting something as it is about finishing something. Many years back I read A.W. Tozer's book 'The knowledge of the Holy.' Each chapter of the book basically focused on a different attribute or truth about God. I found that the more I understood what God has said about Himself, the more I understood myself and the world and it changed me.
I really felt like this focus on who and what God is was lacking in much of our modern worship so I began writing songs to this theme. A couple of them ended up on Foolish Things records when we were touring together (Who Can Compare / This Love.) But I've continued to write them and now I'm ready to record them.
I wasn't originally planning on writing a book as well, but many of the wonderful books like this are from men of the past, and the language is often hard for the modern reader to connect with. So, after more prayer and thought, I really wanted to give our generation a book on the attributes of God in simple language that most people today could understand. I have spent the last year or year and a half studying, praying and writing that book. It is now mostly finished, but needs to be edited, and I'm hoping to get it translated to Swedish so it can be in both languages. The process of writing it has been so powerful in my personal life that it's confirmed to me the importance of all this.
So, like I said, this is about finishing what's been in the works for really many years. I wasn't sure how I was going to fund the finishing of this, but in just a couple days, several people began to point my attention toward kickstarter. It seemed like perhaps this is the vehicle God may use to get it done. I think it's awesome how kickstarter allows people without record labels and publishers to get stuff done with the help of those who believe it's worth doing.
Where's this money going?
Even though I've already put hundreds of hours into this book and these songs, there's still so much to do -and it costs time and money. Some of you have worked with music and books so you know these things are not cheap. I'm trying to stretch this money to get the most out of it. I've set 6,500 as my goal because I think I can get the bear minimum done with that...but I don't know how long it will take since I may have to be doing it in free time while I work. If we are able to raise 10,000, it will free up time for me to get it done in the next few months AND try to have someone work on a Swedish translation of the book. Here's what I'm using these funds for:
Recording the Record.
Mixing the Record.
Mastering the Record.
Printing Physical copies of the Record.
Getting the book Edited.
Getting the book translated (If I can find the right person and price.)
Record an audio version of the Book.
Printing Physical copies of the Book.
Mailing Rewards out to people.
The small fees that go to Kickstarter and Amazon.
IF WE SURPASS THE GOAL: I can get it done much faster, try to get the book translated and use some money to get the word out once it's finished.
Risks and challenges
Challenges: Time is always a challenge as I'm a husband, father of three, learning a new language, doing a new church plant, and making sure the family is provided for. If I'm out looking for extra work to pay the bills it's obviously slows the processes down. Obviously the more free I am to not worry about bills the faster I record and get stuff done...if I'm not super free...then I will still do all of it, but it can take more time.
Also, as many of you know, there are often challenges with waiting for companies to get back with you or work out kinks...that can delay things as well.
One challenge is finding the right person to do the translation to Swedish. It's important with a book like this (on theology) to have the right person who not only knows both languages, but is careful with words and understands possible mis-interpretations of theological statements. I have a couple people in mind, but still waiting to hear back from them, and the amount of money I get may be important for freeing up their time enough to accomplish it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
