We are making Munich Artists Playing Cards and organising an event called 500 Artists Play Cards!
Munich Artists Playing Cards
Elizabeth Hughes came to Munich Artists early this year and asked if we would be interested in making a set of playing cards. We loved the idea and told her that we would make playing cards if we had an event to involve more artists. Munich Artists decided to create 500 Artists Play Cards to see what artists could do with playing cards and combine the event with the creation of a set of artist designed playing cards.
We will have two decks. One party deck and one deluxe deck.
The party deck will come in a metal box. The Deluxe set will have a paper box created by Elizabeth Hughes
All the artwork used for the Munich Artists Playing Cards has been created by talented Munich Artists who agreed to allow us to use their artwork for the card deck which will be printed in Germany. All of the artists for this project live and work in an around Munich, Germany but have ties with America, Japan, Australia, Turkey, Italy and Colombia. Here are most of the cards. We will make a poster of these cards:
All of the artwork on the cards is original and by Munich Artists. The artwork focuses on Munich. Each artist created a set of four cards to design with four artists getting the opportunity to create a Bavarian King to complete the card deck.
The following Munich Artists were involved with the card deck:
- Alexandra Ritter
- Angela Smets
- Ines Seidel
- Janine Völkner
- Berit Opelt
- Süyümbike Güvenç-Noris
- Penelope Richardson
- Isidora Romani
- Elizabeth Hughes ( artwork and card deck design)
- Angelica Zeller-Michaelson
- Maximilian Lückenhaus
- Brigitte Yoshiko Pruchnow
- Emmy Horstkamp
The cards in a metal box are being ordered for October 16th and you can get them at the 30 Euro backer gift option. The deluxe version of the cards will be ordered after our kickstarter. All deluxe card decks and bonus gifts will be mailed to the recipients. If you register for the two card decks, the party deck will be mailed to you with the deluxe version in November.
500 Artists Play Cards
On October 16, 2016 Munich Artists will be getting creatives together to share their creative talents (music, dance, singing etc.) and, if they want, the creatives can build a big card sculpture at Einstein Kultur.
Einstein Kultur is an art space in Munich that is deep underground. We will have three different cellar rooms near Munich's Einstein Jazz club to use for our art happening on October 16th from 1300 to 1800. Munich Artists delegated the first room for video screenings and readings by Munich Artists, Munich Writers and Poets (It has bleacher seating). The second room will be left empty for us to build an organic card sculpture which will be videotaped through and shared later on our website. The third room will be where we have music from Munich Artists and where we sit and talk and take a break from our creative work.
A list of Artists who will be sharing their talents with us on October 16th is available on the Munich Artists website. We have a light painter doing some of her magic, a jazz soul guitarist and a classical guitarist who will share his music towards the end of the evening. If you are an artist and want to share your talents, let me know! emmy @ Kyfio (dot) com.
The funds raised from this Kickstarter campaign go towards production costs for the project. (license fees, printing fees, postage, etc. Each artist signed a contract and we promise to pay them when you pay Munich Artists for the cards.)
Risks and challenges
We have a confirmed location for 500 Artists Play Cards and we have amazing artwork by Munich Artists formatted for playing cards by Elizabeth Hughes. Elizabeth designed the back of the playing cards and the face designs (area around the artwork.) We are currently sourcing printers to have the cards printed by the event date. If the cards are not ready by the event date, they will be mailed to the backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
