This is a genuine back-of-an-envelope-over-a-pint idea which has worked its way around the inside of my head and finally made it to a fully fledged product. We've game tested, worked on the content and core ideas, and come up with a game we think is both easy to play and great fun.
It's a simple game which works with any number of players from two and up. To demonstrate how simple it is and just because he could, my ten year old son beat a bunch of game testers twice in succession one night.
Watch the video, and see what you think. It's a game of matching and scoring points with hexagonal cards. Each card has three sections with a domino style value, and the combinations are used to score. We take between thirty and fifty minutes to play a game with three or four players, slightly longer if people are taking their strategies seriously. Because you play the cards in your hand, there's an element of chance that can make a huge difference in one move.
This is a game for all ages as long as you can match and count. The key thing is to play and enjoy time sat around a table sharing the moment. Because we know what it's like to find a piece missing or spend half an hour searching down the back of the sofa, there are no fiddly bits to lose. The entire concept is based on simplicity of play and simplicity of product.
We believe it's great fun and easy to play. We're sure you'll love it too.Stretch Goals
We'd love to see this project fly. Once everybody is paid in and the project is off the ground...
At £1500 every deck comes with a gift. We'll come up with something to thank you for your commitment and reward your support.
If we hit £3000 the superpowers cards deck can be unleashed on the world. Plain backs, AWESOME obverse. Please note, these cards are unlikely to bestow actual superpowers, but they will give additional actions to disrupt or re-shape gameplay no matter how many decks you have in play. If we hit this stage, every deck buyer gets a superhero card pack included in their deck, from early birds to the very latest adopters.
If we hit £5000 in pledges, I'll release the first expansion set at below cost to anyone who's ordered. It's a bit of work on my part but it'll be a solid honest thankyou to everyone who's signed up for the dream. Another 60 cards or thereabouts to add to the original game and provide further options.
Risks and challenges
Really, there aren't many risks. The costs of production will be met by the Kickstarter and the majority of development is done or under way and paid for. However, suppliers could fail us at the last minute. We have alternative suppliers for most aspects of the project, and although they're more costly than our first choice the numbers should still stack up. It's a physical product, so there are risks with storage and shipping. We'll insure the worst financial risks and live with the smaller ones.
Personally, none of the dev team have invested money they need back in a hurry, and if the Kickstarter isn't funded we just go back to our ordinary lives with no hard feelings.
I'm an administrator by trade, and quite used to dealing with little problems that crop up from time to time. We've got a small but friendly group of people supporting the project already, and there's very little we couldn't overcome.
Missing the shipping date is our worst fear, but backed up by a solid manufacturer and a healthy work ethic we think it should be done on time and within budget.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
