Matte Resist's first book explores advanced DIY projects from building shelves and fixing your bike to solar power and building musical instruments.
Here we go again!
Matte Resist is one example of someone who has taken DIY to the nth degree. In "How and Why" he explores exactly those two topics--showing a wide range of simple and advanced DIY projects with the underpinning notion that anyone is capable and qualified with a little encouragement.
We're raising to print this book, featuring such projects as how to build your own musical instruments, how to make your own solar panel out of pop cans, how to build a bicycle sidecar or just do simple upgrades to your existing bike, how to make various greywater improvements to your home, tons about seed saving and gardening, and how to lead simpler life where you rely on yourself more than global corporations or the government. There is a lot of experience in this book and a tremendous amount of research and editing has gone on over the last four years to make the information available and readable.
The book is currently in the late stages of design but as anyone in publishing knows, the cost of paper has skyrocketed, with about a 50% increase this year. We're asking you all to help make this final step possible by pre-ordering a copy here. If you'd like to contribute more than the cost of the basic book, the larger incentives provide excellent opportunities for more radical lit that we've published at a bargain price.
We've published over 100 zines and books over nearly fifteen years, including Making Stuff & Doing Things, Make a Zine, Chainbreaker, DIY Screenprinting, Stolen Sharpie Revolution, Support, and Make Your Place. This book continues in the tradition of this line of our books and pushes the envelope of what we should expect from DIY, ourselves, and each other.
The rewards of being involved in this kind of publishing are often the people involved that you meet and how supportive the community is around important issues and making things happen. Your support means the world with this project and everything that we've done. Thanks for supporting this zine in particular and independent publishing in general.
