Yes you can! What would these amazing hammocks be without the ability to create something just for yourself?! We have a template for the hammocks that is available for download so you can create your very own hammock unique to you. Just make sure that your design is a high enough quality to ensure that it comes out the way you want it to :) (we have all of the specs listed on the template so you can reference them)
Create something unique for you, a friend, your sports team, festival crew, boy scout troop, or company!
Easiest and Fastest Setup
Be the first one done (and relaxing) when you get to camp. The triglide system we use makes our hammocks the easiest to setup: if you've ever put on a belt, you can hang up a hammock, it’s THAT easy.
Our webbing and triglide suspension is made from Aircraft Grade Aluminum and the webbing is rated to over 1,000 lbs each. In one word: STRONG.
So where you goin? NOWHERE. That’s right. You can be confident that this hammock suspension will keep you floating in comfort all day and night.
The hammock specs are as follows:
-10' length x 5' (60") width -70 denier 1.6 oz/sqyrd it's 100% recycled polyester-The hammocks have safely held 400 lbs.
-The prints are washable, and due to polyester's nature are naturally UV resistant, but do not dry the hammock in a dryer
-The tree straps are 4 yards on each side, so 12' of operating room
-The straps are rated to 1,000 pounds each, so 2,000 lbs working force together
-All hammocks will come with an integrated stuff sack with an external pocket included to house the attached webbing so sap won't get on your hammock.
With other hammocks you will need to purchase straps separately and that's more you have to spend before you can enjoy. Our straps come with every hammock so there's nothing more you need to get hanging!
World's First Sustainably Produced Lightweight Camping Hammocks
As someone who loves enjoying nature in my hammock, the fact that it’s made from non-renewable resources like petroleum got me thinking about ways to create a hammock that makes the world a bit cleaner. Our recycled fabric is amazing because it also requires less than half the amount of energy as virgin synthetic fibers to create; meaning we can give this would-be-waste new life and do it cleanly. Basically it comes down to this: If you can, why wouldn’t you?
The Elevated Movement also plants two trees for every hammock we produce. We do this because it is important to us to be active in reshaping our global landscape. Removing waste is not enough, we need to follow through and replace that waste with something that will benefit the environment. This is full circle recycling at its best.
And what’s the point of an awesome hammock if you can’t bring it with you to show it off? We spent the last year searching for the perfect fabric that will give you the best combination of lightweight and durability to let you bring your hammocks anywhere. The hammock with everything needed to hang it comes in at only 18 ounces. You wont even know it's in your bag!
A quick tip! Most people assume you lay in a hammock directly in line with the suspension but that is not the best way! Derek Hansen from the Ultimate Hang has a nice little diagram here to explain the best way to enjoy your hammock. By laying slightly off center you’ll take all of the pressure off your lower back and you’ll be much more comfortable!
These Have to Be Much More Expensive Than Other Hammocks
We know that the almighty dollar holds weight and that’s why we focused on making these 100% recycled, custom-printed hammocks competitively priced with other hammocks that don't offer you any of these features!
When you consider that with other hammocks you’ll have to spend more money to buy straps separately, the total cost for most commercially available hammock set ups is around $90-130. With The Elevated Movement, you'll get a hammock that lets you be you in the best way possible, is 100% focused on sustainable production, and costs about the same as the competition! What’s not to love?!
How We Got Started
The idea was simple: create a hammock that allowed me to express myself in ways solid colors had failed.
We brought one of our prototypes to Tomorrow World and hiked the Appalachian Trail. We made sure that transferring images to the fabric didn't make them weaker.
After knowing that we could produce durable printed hammocks we had to ask ourselves, “Since we are creating this company from the ground up, how can we make the entire hammock process better?” This is when we came up with the inspiration for a 100% recycled hammock.
We kept working toward finding the perfect fabric and over the course of development we used 3 different recycled fabrics.
Here is a photo of our first set of fabric 50% recycled 70 Denier
Here is a photo of the second fabric: 100% recycled 150 Denier
Here is a photo of us in the final fabric 100% recycled 70 Denier
We put the time and research into getting the best fabric for our hammocks so you can take your mind off the world around you and relax.
Who are you? And why should I trust you?
My name is Matthew Santens and I'm the founder of The Elevated Movement. Hammocks are a passion of mine and have been for a couple years. I've backpacked sections of the Appalachian Trail with my hammock and spent two and a half months backpacking Hawaii with a hammock. I'm someone who uses hammocks day in and day out and wants to create a better product for everyone to use as much as I do. I'm a moderator of reddit.com/r/hammocks where I help offer advice to people new to hanging, and I'm a member of the Palmetto State Hangers, a South Carolina Hammock Group (yes, those exist).
In short, if you asked my friends to describe me, one word you'd hear come out of everyone's mouth is: hammock. I want to bring these new hammocks into the world as a way to create something truly collaborative and substantially focused while drawing attention to new ways we can operate business.
How are you going to make these hammocks?
1) Transferring Designs to the Hammocks
Once funding is achieved, the fabric will be shipped from our textile mill in North Carolina to the printing facility in South Carolina. Once all surveys are completed by kickstarter backers we will begin the transfer of the designs to the hammocks. Our limit in the beginning is around 150-200 hammocks per week. From here they will be shipped to the sewing facility, also based nearby in South Carolina. We could theoretically transfer enough images for around 600-800 hammocks in the month of may alone.
2) Sewing the fabric into Hammocks!
Our limit for sewing is a bit higher than the transfer rate but we can expect 200 completed per week while taking into account potential delays. Once production speed picks up for printing the sewing will be able to scale appropriately. Since there wont be any sewing the first week while images are being transferred we can expect 3 weeks worth of sewing for a potential of 600 hammocks.
3) Making the Straps!
As soon as we receive funding we will place the orders for our raw materials to make the straps to hang our hammocks. The weavers for our straps are in South Carolina and the Mill for the triglides is in Virginia. With a lead time of ~3 weeks for the webbing and triglides we expect delivery by mid-late may. These parts are what take the longest to procure. Once they arrive in the sewing facility however, the process of turning the raw materials into the straps to hang your hammock is one of the simplest processes possible. We can create all of the straps needed for our orders in a day, if we see very high volume from this initial order we will use a couple of days. It's a simple process that's been done many times before.
4) Ship it Out!
For all orders we will be using USPS since they offer tracking on ALL of their shipments so you can follow your rewards right to your doorstep. Will be sending the packages via 2 day priority mail to ensure the best assurance to you. They also use Post-Consumer recycled materials in their packing so it's a great way to ship :)
So Let's Add it All Up:
Theoretically, best case scenario we get 800 hammocks transferred, 600 sewn, enough straps for all of them and they would be out the door by the first week of June.
We know that delays happen and that even when you put in the legwork things happen that you can't foresee. We feel comfortable saying that the first 300 hammocks will be shipped and in your hands by early/mid-June with the rest to follow very shortly after. This is a comfortable number that allows for us to work out some kinks in the beginning of large scale production. We have marked which reward levels will be available by this early June delivery date. The rest will arrive shortly after!
It's always best to set realistic expectations and exceed them, than it is to promise a dream and fall short. We anticipate exceeding our (and your) expectations, we just want to be as transparent as possible about this process.
These hammocks are going to define your summer of 2014! We can't wait to run into you rockin one of these on the trail or at a music festival!

Risks and challenges
We want you to have these hammocks as soon as possible. We have worked with our supply chain and will be producing these at the highest priority. Any complications with production can be dealt with more easily since we have all of our manufacturing taking place here in the states and we can be on site for the first run of production. We have spent the last few months trouble shooting potential issues but in interest of transparency we will list our potential set-backs.
The potential risks include:
- Delays with producing raw materials.
(Webbing, Triglides, heat setting the fabric)
- Delays with production
(Image transfer complications and sewing delays)
We have allocated enough time to get our first orders completed in time, while things could happen, we feel 100% confident in our given timelines.
There can also be risks with shipping. To minimize this we are using USPS to provide tracking to ALL orders. USPS uses 100% recycled materials in their shipping containers and they are great with helping us keep track of international orders, too. When you rewards are shipped you will receive your tracking number so you can follow it to your doorstep!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
