We did it! Our first season has been fully funded - you guys are amazing!
Here are some reasons to keep kicking in for the last four hours of the campaign:
- For $30 you can own both Whatever this is. and The Outs!
- If we hit our reach goal of $200,000 we get to make you a bonus episode!
- Money is evil and we're doing you a big favor by neutralizing all of that evil on your behalf!
About the show
Whatever this is. follows Sam (Hunter Canning) and Ari (Dylan Marron), two production assistants in New York, and Lisa (Madeline Wise), Sam's girlfriend.
Sam and Ari are scraping by working on low or unpaid video production gigs thrown their way by Oscar (Ross Hamman), an existentially grumpy middle-man at a small production company. Making rent is hard enough; they barely have time to sneak toward their personal goals and personal lives in their off-hours.
Lisa is a teacher and therefore unemployed for the summer. A chance encounter puts her on the road to a possible summer job, but she's not sure where it could lead - or if she's even qualified.
Whatever this is. asks a tough question: how long are you expected to do work that you hate, for pennies, until it becomes something that you love that pays the rent? Is it even possible?
We - writers, director, the whole cast and crew (over 35 people!) - want to make this show for you. We want to commit ourselves to it for as long as it takes to make our first season: about 4 months.
With The Outs, it took us a little over a year to produce seven episodes because we were all juggling our passion project with our survival jobs. We want this show to be both - and we would love you to be a part of it.
Without getting too boring, basic stuff like camera and lens rentals ($21,000) and feeding our cast and crew ($12,000) over the course of our three ten-day shooting periods adds up quickly - and the show just can't happen without these necessities.
We've already shot the first two scripts (out of a total first season of six), and we've set the bar for the show pretty high. As we cut these episodes together, it's clear that we're making something really special, and we can't wait to share it with you. Your help in bringing these characters and this world to life is invaluable, and it means the world to us.
Sidenote: Kickstarter and Amazon collect ~10% of all Kickstarter donations, and we've built that number into our goal!
Reach goal #1: $200,000
If we hit $200,000, we'll make a bonus episode - like The Outs Chanukah Special but probably less Chanukah-y!
Thanks for watching and kicking in, and keep up with the show!
Risks and challenges
Any creative endeavor presents unique challenges. For us, the challenge is telling the story we've set out to tell and making it the best it can possibly be.
Since our team has grown from the days of The Outs, our Kickstarter reward fulfillment will be much more efficient this time around. It's our responsibility to make sure the product is up to snuff, and that our backers are part of the process.
We are excited about the challenge of creating new content for you - let's do this!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
