About STANDARD TIME
STANDARD TIME is Mark Stuart Dance Theatre's new Broadway-aimed dance musical. The show celebrates love and its power to defy a society of intolerance that continually tears us apart.
Using MSDT's explosive brand of movement and storytelling, STANDARD TIME follows three separate, period-specific love stories. These stories are set against the backdrops of the Great Depression, the Civil Rights movement, and the shifting contemporary landscape of Gay Rights.
Danced to hit standards from the 1930's, 1960's, and the 2000's respectively, the show features 14 dancers, 4 vocalists and a 6-piece orchestra.
We will be presenting the FIRST EVER fully-staged production of STANDARD TIME at the historic Fulton Theatre in Lancaster, PA on September 28th and 29th, 2013!
About the progress of STANDARD TIME
One year ago, thanks to all of YOUR support, we created STANDARD TIME – The Workshop, a developmental and creative studio workshop to sketch the storyline, movement, and music of the show. We presented a first draft of our show with twelve dancers and prerecorded music to a room full of Broadway Insiders and members of the press. Here’s a bit of the response we got!
"Electrifying..." - BroadwayWorld
"Mesmerizing..." -Art Times Journal
The success and excitement from STANDARD TIME - The Workshop has led directly to STANDARD TIME - The Production.
About THE PRODUCTION
After working exclusively in a studio setting for the past year, STANDARD TIME - The Production will add all of the previously missing elements of the show:
- new musical arrangements
- and a few brand new numbers!
This next step of the process is a HUGE undertaking and really exciting!
Where does the money go?
MSDT is a 501(c)3 Charitable Organization. All donations are tax-deductible! Your money goes directly to covering our production costs, including:
- 14 Dancer Salaries
- 4 Singer Salaries
- 6 Musician Salaries
- Rehearsal Space
How Kickstarter Works:
You can pledge any amount and choose a reward. At the end of our Kickstarter campaign, if the combined total of all pledges for our project meets our $31,000 goal, then the credit cards of those who have pledged are charged and we receive the funds to pay our artists. If we don't meet our goal, then the money is not withdrawn from your account and no rewards are provided. If we exceed our $31,000 goal then the extra funds will be used to make STANDARD TIME even better. Aside from a 5% Kickstarter fee and a 3.5% Amazon credit card processing fee, all funds raised will be used directly in the production of STANDARD TIME.
Can I increase my pledge once it’s been made?
YES! Once you donate to our campaign, you may want to change your incentive reward to a different one, or increase your pledge amount. To do so, go to Kickstarter and sign in. If you go to our campaign page, the green “Back This Project” button has been replaced with a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click it and you can enter a new amount, or choose a new incentive. What happens if all the money isn’t raised in time? Unfortunately, NOTHING. If our entire $31,000 goal isn’t met before the deadline, no money changes hands and our workshop and entire project will be in big trouble. We know you won't let this happen!
Can we exceed the goal?
YES! What an amazing problem to have. Kickstarter will allow as much money as is given before the deadline. Even though $31,000 is already a lot of money, it is still bargain-basement for what we are trying to do, and more money would mean less begging, borrowing, and panic attacks. How do you contact us? Glad you asked! You can contact us directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. We check it. We will get back to you. We promise! Other ways to help: Spread the word! Tell everyone you know about STANDARD TIME. Like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, blow up social media with #standardtime #msdt, blog it, or promote it any way you can think of. Everything helps!
Risks and challenges
Every project has its risks. In our world of theater, we are constantly losing cast members to television shows and movies, coping with injuries, and trying to do a LOT with a little. We're sure to run up against many of these challenges, but we promise to make STANDARD TIME the best it can possibly be!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
