Dance has the potential to change our bodies, our minds, and our lives.
For me, dancing and teaching have always been about breaking boundaries and discovering possibilities that surpass limitations. And now I have the opportunity to study a form of dance that uses this very concept as its foundation. Its called Gaga.
Gaga is a movement language that "originated from the belief in the healing, dynamic, ever-changing power of movement." It was developed by the director of the Batsheva Dance Company, Ohad Naharin, in an effort to heal himself after having a serious back injury. Gaga is basically a way to move from the inside out, from a place of awareness and pleasure rather than habit, and from the perspective of potential rather than limitation. And for the first time ever, Ohad Naharin is offering a Gaga Teacher Training. I am a lucky 1 of the first 8 invited to participate! So that’s it. It begins this October. I want to go. I want to study it. And I want to bring it back to share with you!
Okay, so this is a 3 semester program and I'm making this dream a reality one semester at a time! Everything is ready to go. I’ve given notice to all my awesome jobs, given lots of hugs to my amazing students and friends, found a home for my kitty, a space for my boxes, and now I just need a little help from you! Every dollar will go towards this program: tuition, airfare, a place to sleep, and also hopefully eating food. The first semester’s tuition is 9000 NIS which is about 2500 USD. Full tuition is 27000 NIS or roughly 7500 USD. So any money I make past the 8000 mark will go towards funding the next semester which will also hopefully include eating food!
And if you happen to have a random uncle with a couch in Tel Aviv, I make an excellent housekeeper!
Here is some more Information about the program:
The training course will include the following:
• Gaga classes, methodics, and repertory
• Close guidance from the teaching team and Ohad Naharin himself
• Practice in teaching Gaga
• Learning the basic terms of anatomy and pathology
• Taking part in the continuous research of Gaga with the cooperation of Batsheva
The training course is divided into 4 different phases with a common denominator – a constant research of movement.
The studies will be spread across three full semesters followed by an internship. The semesters will include 11-17 hours of classes per week.
1st semester: Beginning: October-December, Sundays through Thursdays
2nd semester: Middle: February-April, Sundays through Thursdays and twice a month on Fridays
3rd semester: Almost the end: June-August, Sundays through Fridays
Internship: An end that is only the beginning...
