I have completed writing and publishing a Paranormal Romance trilogy and trying to take advantage of an offer for promotional services through PR by the Book, which was offered by my publisher. The publisher, Black Rose Writing, will be sharing in the cost of this three month venture, and my cost would be $500 per month for three months, plus miscellaneous fees for this promotion. In order for me to stand out among the other one-million books that are being published every year (700,000 of which are self-published), I really need to do something different. There is no possible way for me to afford such a venture, so I am hoping for this backing to advance this trilogy and to advance my career. There are numerous enthusiastic reviews on Amazon, but that's not enough to push the boulder up the hill and give this paranormal romance trilogy the attention it deserves. Thank you very much for your support!
Interesting note regarding Desert Son: When I was 16 years old, I was in a car accident that put me in a coma on and off for a week. I broke my neck, pelvis, ribs, shoulder, hand, and suffered third-degree burns. This experience has been infused into my writing as the opening scene of Desert Son has the main character, Carter, hovering above the scene of his own car accident. I heard a lot of stories about my accident. The car flipped off the highway and hit a tree and ejected all five of us, before the car landed on top of me. I imagined the scene of my real-life accident for the opening scene of Desert Son. It's affected my life more than anyone would know.
Risks and challenges
Having a small publisher means they create the book, but marketing efforts are the responsibility of the authors. We buy our own books at a discount and resell them at events with no real profit. The internet is really the only way to go, but the competition is a sea of authors screaming from the hilltops to buy their books. I am constantly trying to think outside the box as far as marketing, and this Kickstarter just might be the answer to my promotional dream campaign. However, time is of the essence and I need to throw my hat in the ring because the PR company only offered a limited number of promotional spots to my publisher. The funding could still be used for other promotional efforts through my publisher, but this PR deal would really help out my writing career.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
