A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

The AutoDock robotically connects the charging cord to your phone giving you the best solution for easy connecting. All other methods force you to compromise with proprietary adapters, reduced charging speed, or require you to put magnets on your phone. Wireless charging is slow, normal docks are boring, and cords wear out too fast, so we took another approach...
The AutoDock is Different.
FAST TO CONNECT, FAST TO CHARGE - Your phone probably has some form of Quick Charge tech built-in and wireless charging docks can't utilize it. Use the appropriate wall charger with the AutoDock and it will send that fast-charging right to your phone.
NO CHANGES TO YOUR PHONE - The AutoDock doesn't require you to change anything about your phone, no bulky magnetic plugs, special cases, or wireless receivers. You won't ever have a blocked charging port with some proprietary setup, so you stay open to connect the old-fashion way any time you need to.
DATA FRIENDLY - The AutoDock's internals can be powered by the USB port on your computer and will support data-transfer while doing it (up to USB 3.1 for Type-C). It's perfect for the office!
ACCESS TO WHAT'S YOURS - The AutoDock uses a firm but gentle grip to cradle your phone just the way you do in your hand, so you can easily access buttons or whatever else you need on your phone.
UNDOCK IN AN INSTANT - A touchless sensor on the side triggers a quick disconnect, allowing for fast undocking in one motion. With the AutoDock, all you ever touch is your phone!
NO SMALL TASK - People who could use a helping hand with making such a small connection are sure to appreciate the reliability of the AutoDock. Especially as cords break or wear out and lose their grip.
AND... IT'S SUPER FUN! - Go check out the rewards and get ready to #DockItLikeItsHot!
Backers will receive a survey at the end of the campaign to choose their connector for the wall adapter side (Type-A or Type-C) and at the Dock (iPhone Lightning, Micro-USB or USB-Type C).
If you don't know, you will be able to just supply your phone and charger info and we will tell you what set-up you need.

Some Other FAQS
Will the AutoDock make me lazy? Yes.
But won't other forms of automation make me lazy too? Yep, you'll have to give up power windows, automatic doors, and power laces. We are confident that automation is the way forward and well, phone docks have been sitting stagnant for a long time. You might even have one sitting in a drawer somewhere because it created more work for you instead of helping you out. The AutoDock changes that, it improves your phone connecting experience.
Yeah but hey isn't wireless charging the future? Wireless charging uses induction coils to transfer power, a method that will always have more inefficiencies compared to a physical connection. It's why your phone heats up and takes forever to charge, it's also why manufacturers like Apple and Google don’t even include it on their phones. The AutoDock is just as easy as using wireless charging but gives you the full power and efficiency of a solid wired connection.
Is my phone compatible? The first versions of the AutoDock will be compatible with 5 to 6+ inch phones that have a left-to-right centered charging port on the bottom of the phone (with manual adjustment for the front-to-back position). You will choose an Apple Lightning, Micro-USB or USB Type-C version of the AutoDock. Phone + case widths up to 80 mm are supported. Optional extensions to the positioning arms will allow smaller phone + case widths (70 mm down to 65 mm) to get a better grip if needed.
What about those (bulky) magnetic quick-connectors? Read the specs carefully because the small pin connections may have power and data limitations. Also, magnets attract metal and metal shorts out exposed electrical contacts. If magnets and pogo pins could deliver they would be the standard by now, but Apple recently dropped their MagSafe connection on Macbooks and they've never added it to the iPhone or iPad even though they could have. An inserted cord connector just makes better contact, and the AutoDock elegantly handles just that.
Do I need a separate AutoDock for each person in my house? Not if you and your roommate have the same phone connector and you both use a case that is a similar thickness. But yes, this first version of the AutoDock is specific to a connector type and you do a one-time setup to align your specific phone-case pair.
Is my case compatible? Since the AutoDock grabs and positions your phone it works best with cases that are not super grippy. The adjustment allows for cases up to 4mm thick but you can't have one of those flaps that block the port.
I saw your first KickStarter, how'd you reduce the price? This latest iteration is a redesign from scratch focused on making the dock more affordable. It uses a more streamlined adjustment system and forgoes the internal battery and swappable connectors in order to ensure universal fast charge support. The electronics have also been redesigned. Look for optional features like battery backup coming in the future!
The AutoDock is a gadget you'll actually use!
Why is the delivery date 8 months out? You are helping to launch a new product, and we want to give you a realistic delivery date rather than a bait-and-switch. The products you see in this KickStarter are engineered and well-developed, but they are not yet mass produced. We are going to be particular about the final product quality and intentional about the sourcing of the components. Make no mistake, we always will maintain the ambition to deliver sooner! And as a rule, you won't ever be left in the dark about where things are as they progress.
How will we make sure you get a great product? We teamed-up with a full-service innovation firm with a proven track record. They have been successfully bringing consumer and commercial electronics to market since 2004 that not only work good but also look good.
What will happen to the funds? KickStarter and other fees take up about 10%. The rest goes toward the delivery of your rewards. That's composed of some engineering work for manufacturability, finalizing the look of the product and purchasing tooling and materials. The funds won't be going toward marketing or hiring people or any major fundamental redevelopment of the technology.
