We are JP and Amy Ranaldi, together we are SugarDaddy's Bakery!
SugarDaddy's came about from a passion for cake and sweet treats. Our bakery is a haven for coeliacs, allergy sufferers, and people who just love great cakes! Amy has coeliac disease, so we know first hand just how hard it is to get foods that are safe to eat and also taste great.
Our little bakery is nearly 3 years old now, so the aim of this campaign is to help us raise additional funds to open a second, bigger bakery. This will allow us to increase the amount of delicious things that we can make for everyone out there and keep up with the demand for our products.
Not only is everything we make 100% gluten free, we try to make as many dairy free, egg free, nut free and vegan options as we can. We love making treats that everyone can eat!
The only thing holding us back is the size of our current kitchen, which is why we need to open a second shop. We want to broaden our offering to include more savoury options and other familiar items that are safe for people with dietary restrictions but still taste awesome. Bigger premises will allow us to grow our team and give us the time and space to develop these new products.
By contributing to our campaign you are helping us grow our business and ensuring a supply of delicious cakes and food that you and your loved ones can enjoy regardless of anyone's food restrictions.
We are looking for £29,000 to allow us to kit out a much larger kitchen and provide a cool space for you to sit and enjoy our offerings. That sounds like an awful lot of money, but as we learned from our first bakery, money disappears quickly when you are buying big pieces of kitchen equipment, like ovens, fridges and mixers!
We have come up with a pretty sweet set of rewards for you guys, that we think you will love. And the best bit is that you don't have to wait until our second bakery is open to redeem them! If we hit our goal, we will be able to start dishing out some of your rewards right away! Want a box of treats? They're yours! Want us to cater your birthday party with enough sweet things to make you all run around like you are 4 years old again? We'll do it!
Those of you who have been to our little bakery in Rodney Street and have met us know that we love what we do. Cake makes everyone happy and it really does give us great satisfaction to see how much people love what we make. If you haven't been to the bakery and are wondering if you should help with this campaign, pop down to Rodney street in Edinburgh, say hi and try our treats - you won't be disappointed!
We know that asking for money is a difficult thing, and sometimes you just don't have it - that's cool, we've been there! But you can still help us out by sharing this campaign far and wide on social media, tell your friends and get them to tell their friends. The more people we can get to see this then the more likely it is to succeed. Kickstarter is an "all or nothing" crowdfunding platform, so that means if we don't hit our goal, we don't get anything. Every contribution, no matter how small, is vital to the completion of our campaign.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, we really appreciate it and we hope to see you at the bakery real soon!
Risks and challenges
We have learned a lot from opening our first bakery and keeping it fresh and exciting for people over the last 3 years. We intend to stay just as "hands-on" as we grow our business to ensure we remain focused on providing the best quality product we can. We see a lot of products dip in quality when businesses grow too fast and we don't want this to happen to us. This is a big challenge, but as we add the right people to our team we will be able to overcome this.
The other big obstacle we face is convincing people with no dietary restrictions that our stuff tastes great. The only way to overcome this is to get more and more people to try our cakes to realise just how good they are. We are confident in our products and expanding will allow us to reach a bigger audience with a wider range of delicious foods.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
