About this project
"There was once an orphan who
longed for more.
He was curious, smart, and had a thirst to explore.
The boy's name was Sheldon and his days were rough
At school or at home, he just had enough.
Everyday brought more
of the same.
Homework, chores and no time for games.
He remembered the school lesson of the day
About a turtle's life and their love to learn and to play."
Sheldon is an orphan who struggled to find a place he could call his 'home,' until a school lesson opens up a new world of possibilities. He decides that the life of a turtle is much more enjoyable than one of a boy. With needle and thread in hand he sets about to make his new life a reality.
The Turtle Who Was A Boy is an imaginative story that tries to show a child to explore ones own creativity and encourage them to create their own place in the world.
From the Turtles Nest:
The birth of this story comes from my experience of being a father. When I first saw my son he reminded me of a turtle. And as time progressed, I began to think about what it is to be a child and how much we expect from our children. And in the light of my parental fears and standards I hold for my kids, it began to dawn on me that a simple animal enjoys life more then we allow ourselves and our children. This book tries to capture the wonderful journey through imagination and fantasy to a place that both a parent and child can enjoy simply for the sake of fun.
Here is where we need your help:
Your funding will go towards the illustrating, publishing, and merchandising of The Turtle Who Was A Boy. This is a labor of love and I have many ideas on how to expand on this story and new ways to bring it to life. The rewards I have created are just a sample of how I would like to expand this story to new avenues and bring this project to fruition.
Here are some of the examples of how I wish to expand from this story book and bring its characters to life.
This is an example of the paper doll you can acquire when you pledge. A pdf of this cutout will be sent to you in which you can build this.
Here is an example of the Soos doll you can acquire through the incentives. Soos can be added for $50 to any pledge as well.
As you can see, I'm not very good in front of a camera. But I am a simple illustrator pursuing his dream of making meaningful stories for every child. I have written this story and am in the process of illustrating it as well. Please click the links provided to see my works in progress as I develop this story.
I'd be happy to do whatever I can to get this to you. I really believe in transparency and am open to taking any inquiries to ship internationally. Please contact me if you are an international backer and I will work with you to get whatever incentives you are interested in. I am always happy to answer questions and meet new people. Please feel free to ask away. Thanks!
