Reviews and feedback on "Puddles or Lunch?" (Mockup Book):
"...We enjoyed it very much. Great pics!..I like the repetition in the book, and I also like the fact that as a teacher the repetition allows the children listening and sitting to get involved in the reading of the book...I also like that the story has some questions throughout; this would allow for the teacher to get some predictions from the students, interactive for sure!...Very creative and allows the children reading and listening to be creative too!" -- S. Soares-Almeida, K-7 teacher, Vancouver School Board. For full review see UPDATE #2.
"I shall support your efforts and read it [Puddles or Lunch?] to my children as well." -- Dr. Samia Khan, associate professor in educational technology and science education at UBC. Dr. Khan and her grad students are researching maker culture for children and philosophical questions associated with the "Puddles or Lunch?" dilemma.
"Well done, as I read it I could hear myself reading it at circle and it flowed very well...We will be sure to feature it at school when it comes out!" -- S. Gatiss-Brown, Westside Montessori Academy teacher and principal
"I can easily read this story to my class. It's engaging and it brings out the message that children can be independent problem solvers." -- Montessori teacher
Why Puddles or Lunch?
I have a six year old daughter.
As a parent, I always wonder how I can teach my child concepts like: resilience, self reliance, it's ok to mess up as long as you clean up your mess…etc. All that wondering constantly swirl in my mind and eventually became a part of my subconscious. I know from experience that explaining concepts like the above to a young child, especially to a 4 or 5 year old, can be challenging. So I created a children's book called "Puddles or Lunch?". A FUN story about a classic dilemma of a child dinosaur having far too much fun messing about and then expecting lunch. The story centres around how the little dinosaur figures out how to get clean.
I printed out the book at Staples and had children, teachers, and librarians read it. You should have come across some of their their feedback from above already. Because of all the good responses I decided to launch a crowdfunding project on Kickstarter, to have the book professionally printed. I need your help to get the word out, even your support. People can support my project through donation. In other words, funding the project. There are many different types of funding options, some will result in the supporter receiving a copy of the hard cover book . There are also many other rewards. My crowdfunding ends June 30. If I do not reach my goal then I do not get any funds. Unfortunately it is an all or nothing situation.
About the Author
I have been a professional 2D and 3D graphic artist for the past 14 years. I draw, paint, model, rig, animate, and make animated shorts. I have taught people how to make all sorts of video game art. My work, under the name of Anna Fong, can be seen in video games published by Disney, Konami, Universal, and Sega.
Ever since the birth of my six year old daughter, I have wanted to create simple stories that could make a positive difference for her and her peers especially with all the turmoil in the world now-a-days. I wanted to affirm the message that those who have the wherewithal to try and solve their problems need to possess resilience to continue finding a solution, even in the midst of repeated failure, because eventually they will succeed. But honestly, I am happy if the children simply enjoy my stories. If they get something more out of them, then it’s a bonus for me.

Your support is used to start a dream! I do not keep the goal of $6500. The money is distributed as follow:
-55% will go towards the printing costs of the book, postcards, stickers, prints, t-shirts.
-35% will go towards packaging, Canadian shipping and part of international shipping costs
-10% will go towards Kickstarter fees.
Your generous support will allow me to pre-sell the books at a lower price than what they will be sold in book retailers, to re-invest in marketing the book and to create more fun stories with subtle messages that children enjoy!
Name on thank you page in book.
To show my gratitude for your support, regardless of your pledge amount, your name will appear on the thank you page at the back of the book. You may include your name and your favorite dinosaur.

Risks and challenges
All the writing, illustrations, book designs are finished. Everything is ready for the printer.
The foreseeable obstacles would be:
1. Finalizing the book proof to make sure the colours and page layout are as I have envisioned before the actual print run. I am already in communications with printers right now to finalize the colour and layout of the pages.
2. My projected time of delivery of the books and rewards are based on the printer's estimated time. However, delays can happen in printing and/or shipping. I promise to keep you informed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
