I drew up this design a few years ago while in college studying Community Health and Disability Studies and interning at my local Planned Parenthood. The slogan "my body, my choice" is synonymous with reproductive rights and freedom but grew to mean a lot more to me.
Everyone should have autonomy over their body and what they think is best for them. This means having the rights and ability to obtain gender affirming healthcare. This means allowing people with uterus's to be able to make their own health decisions and not restrict their choices- from having healthy children to getting "tubes tied" without the requirements of having kids/spousal permission. This means making it illegal to sterilize people, specifically those with disabilities, without clear informed consent from the individual. This means not performing surgery on intersex folks as infants. This means accessible and affordable/free birth control of ALL kinds. This means outlawing abstinence only education and requiring SexEd to include all sexualities and courses on consent. (and even more because I could go on ...)
This pin will be 2.25 inches tall (so BIG) with a double back posting. The goal of $600 includes ALL 3 color variants with stretch goals of other colors possible. Pins will be more expensive once in stock.
Shirts are limited in bundles at a reduced cost for this campaign but will continually be available in my shop. They will be a unisex cut (or standard US male sizes) from XS to 3XL and in multiple colors.
As a disclaimer- I am a white person and I do not intent to profit off of black and brown representation. This campaign is not for me to make money but to get these items made and in stock. Once in my shop all non-white variant proceeds will be donated to local NYC organizations that primarily serve POC communities. I am always open to discussion or suggestion about how to best use my privilege and provide continuing ally-ship.
The original design was black and white/ pen and paper so when I decided to create colored versions I did not want to create something that people could not see themselves in.
I also understand how a skirt may seem "gendered" but besides me not being able to draw shorts/pants, i wanted to get the idea of letting people of any gender wear whatever the hell they want.
My ideas for stretch goals would include a version with a mobility aide, visible hair on legs, other skin tons/or multicoloration, tattoos, etc. I would LOVE to do these as patches as well.
Risks and challenges
I have made several pins and this 4th Kickstarter so I am confident in the production of these items. I have solid, reliable manufactures who make good quality with a decent turnaround time.
The only challenge for me is the summer is convention season for me so I will be traveling. My goal is to have the pins in hand by the end of June and ship them early July but hopefully sooner.
