About this project
-The idea is born.
I often connect different equipment to my computer for lab purpose and at one occasion i shortcircuited the USB port. It was not damaged but i then realized how great it would be to have some kind of external protection, that can be used with many applications. Not only for computers.
The function should fit many situations and electronic gadgets. The idea evolved to be a solution that will protect anything from shortcircuit/ overload and which can be connected together with a USB connector/ port. The fuse shall work indenpendently and use settings set by user and not by some software controll. Then you are always sure what the current limits/ settings are!
-The small details.
There are endless ways of implementing the functionality but i early decided to keep it simple. The only thing the user needs to take care of is to set the maximum current limit for every unique usercase. There are 5 current modes that would fit the most common situations. A button is used for all interaction with the fuse. A long press on the button sets a new mode. Short press on the button at any time will show the current setting. As mentioned before there are 5 current limits to chose between and this is displayed by the LED after a short button press. As example, if mode 3 is set the LED will blink three times, mode 5 will result in five blinks.
When the fuse detects a current higher than the set limit it will shut of output power and the LED will be turned on continuesly. The fuse can be reset either by pressing the button or by removing it from the Usb outlet.
Only high quality components are used to secure that the fuse has the accuracy as can be expected. No casing is needed but would be nice in the future.
Under/Over voltage protection will detect if the fuse is connected to correct voltage. This is important to ensure the functionality. If voltage is to high or to low it will shut of the fuse output. This will not be ressetable by the button, only by disconnecting the fuse from USB outlet.
UV/OV (under/over voltage) protection. (Ongoing)

Updates are already ongoing with the functionality above added. Also a table on the back shows the different modes so you won't be confused.
For those of you who prefer an isolated unit there is a possibility to get one wrapped in shrinktube, no extra charge. It will give a bit more robust feeling to the fuse but the button "click feeling" will decrease slightly
Units will ship default without shrinktube. If you prefer to have an isolated unit please let me know in time before shipping.
It's a good way of testing if an invention will fly or not. There are more interesting features that can be added to the fuse. The backers will receive a fully working prototype. Hopefully I have not missed any obvious feature or usercases but with your good ideas and feedback this will be a even greater product.
Risks and challenges
There are no really risks regarding the product itself due to the fact it's already up and running. I use it myself and I have severall friends using it without any remarks.
With that said, the more people using it the more tested it will be.
