About this project
Hi Kickstarter's! My name’s Jack Salzke – I’m a fashion and beauty photographer based in Melbourne, Australia and I want to make a book that changes your outlook on the world of fashion and modelling….
Being a part of the fashion industry gives you a much greater insight into how much hyperbole the media places onto the make up and Photoshop we use to create our imagery; whilst it is true that extreme makeup and extreme Photoshop is an issue, I personally don’t believe it’s quite as prevalent as the media would make it out to be.
You see – Photoshop takes time, as does applying makeup - if a photographer can reduce the time it takes to complete one or both of these processes, they will, which is why they book flawlessly beautiful models who are fit and healthy and require very little makeup and very little post processing (Photoshop) to get the look that they require.
For this very reason, I’m super excited to bring you a book filled with 100 or more models, wearing absolutely NO MAKEUP, and without the use of Photoshop.
A beautiful set of girls, some flattering lighting, and black and white conversion in Adobe Lightroom, that’s all it is. And I must say after testing the first 12 models over the past 2 weekends, I’m really excited about the results. This book will prove that makeup and Photoshop aren’t necessary to make these girls look absolutely beautiful, because they already are.
I should note a couple of other points:
- The images will all be tightly cropped around the face of the models, I’m not looking at full length images in this book, although every girl represented in this book – will be to the best of my knowledge: healthy.
- All images will be converted to black and white using Adobe Lightroom, no Photoshop will be used, however I will be removing obvious pimples from the models using Lightroom’s very basic healing tools (I will only be removing blemishes that will have disappeared within a day or two, anything permanently on the models face will remain such as scars and/or freckles).
Risks and challenges
Time, time, time...
Whilst I'm sure I'll face many more challenges along the way - this is my first book so I don't know if my time expectations are realistic or not, and I don't know what else might steal my time away during the course of creating this book, but I've tried to make the November shipping dates a worst case scenario, I would love to have it out much much sooner than that!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
