We have removed the Relapse demo for download and cancelled our Kickstarter campaign.
We’ve learnt so much from this experience and want to thank everyone who has played the demo. We are more determined than ever to make a fantastic game and we’ve already started work on the inside of Arcadia. We’re hoping to start another crowd funding exercise sometime soon once we have more to show. We’ll keep you informed.
It’s certainly been a lesson in humility recently but some of the comments and tweets have become rather too personal. A quick reminder that as much as we'd love to be on the level of Outlast and Amnesia our company is just two people in their very early 20s, with no previous industry experience. This isn’t an excuse – but we are still learning and building a game of that kind of quality takes time when all the art and code is produced from scratch. We will post up what we are intending to change soon so you can add constructive comments. Thank you for playing and working with us and we hope you stick around to see Relapse evolve :)
Please follow us on our Social Media accounts to keep up to date with Relapse and see when the next Kickstarter is up.
- A first person horror adventure game inspired by Amnesia, Penumbra and Myst
- Made using Unreal Engine 4
- Immersive experience, stunning graphics and realistic ambient soundtrack
- Puzzle solving with a choice of modes for players who don't want the puzzles to be too taxing
- Multiple solutions for puzzles
- Doesn't use repetitive jump scares, a horror that lingers
- Thoroughly researched to make the game as realistic as possible
- A full back story to explore, learn what life was like in a UK Victorian Insane Asylum
- Fight against Dirk, a mysterious character who is hunting you down in a sick game of hide and seek. Can you outwit him?
All the environments were made using 3ds Max, Zbrush and substance painter. Brought to life inside the Unreal Engine.
Explore each environment for clues, find items to help you fight against Dirk. Use oil on doors to stop them from squeaking or leave traps to slow his progress.
Interact with your environment using items within your inventory. There are multiple solutions for each puzzle.
Welcome to Arcadia Asylum! A psychological thriller and puzzle game. Relapse into madness and download the demo today, we've kept the best content inside.
Relapse is a genre mash up of two beloved gaming genres, horror and puzzle adventure games! Using research on the psychology of fear to play with your emotions.
Inspired by games like Amnesia and Grim Fandango. Solve puzzles to escape the now abandoned asylum and fight for your life against Dirk, your somewhat persistent stalker. Will you make it out or become another victim?
You visit the asylum as an urban blogger when you are captured by Dirk- a psychopath who locks you inside and wants to play hide and seek. As he intends to carve you up with a machete if he finds you, you need to find a way to escape. Dirk knows the asylum like the back of his hand and can hear you – so you need to be on the top of your game if you’re going to survive.
The asylum and grounds are like a small city, with everything it needed to house over a thousand patients. It finally closed down in 1987, with all patients being released into Care In the Community. Not all patients coped with the new freedoms and some stopped taking medication necessary to keep them calm.
The game has all the immersion and shocks of a horror game along with the puzzles of an old school adventure game which you need to solve to escape.
Relapse is inspired by some of our favourite games growing up. We want our game to be logical, intelligent, tense, atmospheric, immersive and fun.
Our source of inspiration were the puzzles from games such as Myst, Monkey Island, Broken Sword and Grim Fandango, whilst creating a tense and brooding atmosphere like Amnesia and Penumbra.
Back the project from just £7 and receive a digital copy of the game. You may choose to have this via Steam code or DRM-free.
There are lots of different and Kickstarter exclusive rewards to suit each backer! From posters to T-shirts to being immortalised inside the game! See your name on a gravestone or your portrait hanging on the asylum walls as one of the board members.
Personalise your case file! Tell your story on how you were admitted to Arcadia Asylum.
We are an independent development company based in Bournemouth in the UK. We started in 2015 after graduating from the University.
If our initial funding goal is reached we will finish Relapse for PC release, this is the absolute minimum we need to deliver an amazing gaming experience. However, if we reach our stretch goals we will be able to improve Relapse to it's full potential, including multiple puzzle modes and a game that adapts to your worst nightmares to give a truly frightening and unique experience to each player.
We will be able to guarantee release onto multiple consoles, including PlayStation 4, Xbox one etc. This will mean we can bring Relapse out on consoles on day one of the release! The digital game reward tier will then be changed to allow for you to pick for a PC or console copy.
We have been developing RELAPSE for the past 8 months from our own personal savings. By Kickstarting we will be able to work full time to finish the project without taking on part time work.

Risks and challenges
This is our first project since graduating from our 4 year University course in Games Technology but we are determined to make this game. We need your support to enable to continue working full-time and to expand the team so we can realise the full potential.
We've minimised delivery risk by writing the script and hiring a professional project manager who has planned the project fully before asking you to fund it. He has also planned all the financials so we know what we need to complete and will manage the delivery, meeting with us at least once per week to ensure we are on track.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
