"One way or another you will start seeing these new training machines in gyms everywhere soon." Crowdfund Insider
Step #1: Download the Virtual KnockOut™ mobile app
Step #2: Choose a Level
Step #3: Play
A virtual trainer throws lefts, rights and overhead mitts along a 3D
path and you have to tap on either side when they reach a
specified target area. Overhead mitts are a different color and shape
and require a downward thumb slide in order to duck and avoid a point
deduction penalty. It gets REALLY intense!
Step #4: Mount your device and go LIVE!
Go from finger tapping to a realistic, full impact workout by connecting to the targets via Bluetooth. Each spring loaded target has an accelerometer that measures both accuracy and power and scores your punches accordingly.
While watching my kids play
Rock Band® one day, I started day dreaming about the boxing focus mitt
workout I had earlier in the day. It was great working with a trainer,
but I wondered how I could possibly afford to keep hiring one. Then,
watching my daughter hit the drums to the beat of the visual cue's, a
light bulb went off. Rhythm gaming was the answer and a boxing machine
like that could replace every treadmill, exercise bike and elliptical
trainer in the world. The next day, I bought one, tore it apart and
made a prototype. The rest, as they say, is history.
July 2012 - Take apart drum set
October 2012 - wood prototype
2012-2013 - Game and technology development - accelerometers replace touch sensors, mobile app and Bluetooth used to replace hardware
Dream With Us!
We believe there is no end to what we
can do Virtual
KnockOut™. From replacing treadmills in homes and gyms to having an
arcade unit in every theater, sports venue and bar. Imagine future
upgrades and versions with inside leg kicks and more. Or how about
competing head to head, where you are the trainer and you randomly box
as fast as you can for an entire round while the guy next to you, or in
another part of the world, is the boxer that has to keep up with your
workout on his own machine? Then you keep switching after each round.
WE'RE EXCITED TO TAKE THIS JOURNEY WITH YOU!!!!!
Our Software Partner: Hairy Monster Studios is the team behind Save Betsy and Bowl 'em Hoops. CEO John Klotz immediately bought into our vision and has exceeded our expectations in both professionalism and punctuality. We are thrilled to have his programming and business experience by our side.
Our Hardware Partner: The guys at Stdio1 have extensive experience in design, engineering and manufacturing of Bluetooth controllers and have established close relationships with some of the same overseas suppliers used by Apple and Microsoft.
Both our partners have put in a ton of time and energy to this project already and are anxiously awaiting the results of this campaign in order to move towards completion. This has been and will continue to be a true team effort as we develop more and more features.
The Creator: My name is Pete Gustin and I am a 43 year old part time inventor, husband and father of two teenagers. My first venture, KnockOut Abs®, took eleven years to reach tv airwaves. But a failed attempt by one of the largest infomercial companies in the world led me back to square one. It was only after I regained the rights to the product and shot a video the way I thought it should be done that the product went on to sell 70,000 units and counting in over 30 countries. In fact, the trainer that helped me, Tommy Grimmer, is also the guy with the tattoos in this VKO video. I'm thrilled to be presenting directly to the people that will use the product rather than leaving it in the hands of someone else.
We're raising funds for:
#1: to complete the game / app in both Android and iOS.
#2: to finalize the design and molds for the Bluetooth controller.
#3: to get the proper FCC certification that is needed for wireless products.
#4: to set up mass production.

What makes it special:
Simplicity - By using a mobile device on the residential units, we are dramatically reducing the cost and service issues compared to a unit that comes with its own computer. The commercial units are also very simple to service and repair. The software can be totally reloaded via wifi and, in the worst case scenario, an entire tablet can be swapped out in a matter of minutes. There are only two electronic parts to deal with - the controller and the tablet.
Rhythm gaming is the key ingredient in two of the most popular game crazes ever - Guitar Hero® and Dance Dance Revolution®. We believe that, in addition to music and dance, it is also the perfect platform for a boxing focus mitt workout. With your help, Virtual KnockOut™ machines will take a permanent place in the market for cardio fitness equipment.

Risks and challenges
Bringing a new product to market is never easy, but we have experience in overcoming obstacles and delivering quality products. Our first product, KnockOut Abs®, was launched via television infomercial in 2010. The first show crashed and burned, but we were able to get the rights back from a large marketing company, shoot video the way we thought it should be done and have now sold over 60,000 units in 30 countries.
With this product, there is clearly more technology involved. So what we've done is stuck with what we do best, design products, and left the technology and programming to the experts. We're delighted with our team, have much of the project done in advance and are leaving nothing to chance.
The biggest challenge left is fulfillment and shipping. Although we have several options for warehouse space and plenty of experience fulfilling orders, it is critical that we coordinate the various supplier factories in China so that all of the components are consolidated and shipped together. We hired an agent to help in this effort and are quite confident that we can deliver on time and within budget.
