Howdy, I'm HoopaDoo and welcome to my Kickstarter!
At heart I'm a stacking toy... but that's just the start of my story. Really I'm going to be your child's first teacher... (well after you obviously). While they play and develop through their early years, I'm going to support your child with hand-eye co-ordination, gripping and help them develop their fine motor skills. I come with my own colourful story cards, which will also encourage your child with storytelling, spelling, colours, shapes, textures, problem solving and much more.
I'm suitable for young fingers aged 6 months to preschool. I'm safe, fun, easy to transport, colourful, inexpensive, gender neutral and I'll grow up with your child.
Let me introduce you to my stackers
I have 9 cool and colourful stackers each with its own shape, size, depth and theme. They also have their own textures encompassing grooves, ridges, smooth, rough, raised, dipped, shiny and matt surfaces. We are all friends and have so many stories to tell!
All of my stackers' textures offer a sensory experience and are useful for when your baby is teething right through to their tactile development as toddlers.
Check out my story cards
I also come with my own unique double-sided story cards with each page corresponding to a different stacker.
Each of my story cards can be used to:
- Identify the different stackers and STACK them as you go
- Identify the different stackers and MATCH them to my cards
- Learn more about the stackers and their environments through group play or solo play
- Make up stories - Prompt your child to tell a story about my stackers
- Play games and find similar items around your home/nursery
- Spell - Each story card has its stacker name spelled out on side (1)
- Read - Each story card poses a question on side (2)
Kids love me... My creator Shim has dedicated a lot of time to making sure they do! One of the most important things she told me she wanted was for me to play with both boys and girls and that I could unite them through play. Shim said that too many toys were labelled 'For Girls' or 'For Boys' and were basically designed to keep children apart. So my book and my stackers and even my colours were designed to appeal to all little minds. I've grown up with her kids, which is how I started. It was her two children that helped develop my 4 Levels of Play.
Level 1 - Novice
During the early days I'll help develop your child's strong little fingers as they keep my stackers busy bishing and bashing, licking and gripping, grasping and squashing.
Level 2 - Amateur
Children are such fast learners. Soon we'll be working together to strengthen their hand-eye co-ordination and their memory recall when we start learning the stacker names and colours.
Level 3 - Pro
As we grow together I will be able to help them with matching my stackers to my story cards. Before you know it we'll be learning about shapes, textures and counting the blades on the propeller and the points on the star!
Level 4 - Master
Shim's children loved learning about the environment and where my stackers could be found in the real world. When Shim's eldest Eden started Reception I was able to help her identify letters, support her with spelling and even reading. And what's even better is when her younger brother Zion came along we could all play together as she was now a Master and was really good at showing him how I work!
My stackers and story cards really are the best of friends. My clever story cards add more diversity by assisting with reading and spelling as your child grows. Bold graphics help your child through the early years with taking an abstract form (an idea or concept i.e. picture of a fish) and turning it into something concrete (a real and tangible 3D item i.e. the fish stacker). This is a fundamental part of learning for young children and crucial to their cognitive (brain) development.
I've been with Eden and Zion for a few years now and they still take me everywhere!
But Shim says it's time for me to go out into the world and make lots of new friends. So this is my Kickstarter campaign. Shim has put a lot of work into the project and I am ready to go all we need are lots of lovely families who want a toy just like me. Recently I was asked to describe myself so I took a S.E.L.F.I.E. and it turns out I am...
I have been a passion of my creator Shim for a number of years now and she's had plenty of time to practice and perfect me (not that I think I'm perfect... but I am pretty cool). I am a product of a lot of love and a lot of thought and I'm sure we're going to get on really well... this is what Shim said about how it all began.
“June 2011 was my daughter's 1st birthday and I was heavily pregnant with my son. She had presents galore to open as we had gone overboard with the invites with our first born's party... as you do! When we finally got round to opening the presents there were five different stacking toys!! She absolutely loved all of them even though they were all the same. Then when I had my son, he too loved playing with them. But I just kept thinking there was more they could be learning whilst playing with these rings and the idea of HoopaDoo came to me whilst watching my son and daughter play together. There’s a 13 month age gap between them and from quite early I could see they played and learned in very different ways as all children do. Watching my daughter she was more talkative whilst playing and my son he would quite happily just sit there and bish and bash and knock things down. Different methods of play but highly complementary to one another and I thought they should be brought together not pulled apart.”
I can't wait to meet you all and you can get me right here cheaper and before anyone else by being a backer on my Kickstarter.
I just want to say thanks on behalf of my creator Shim for taking the time to learn about me. If you don't have young children please check out our other fun rewards and we would be very grateful if you could share my campaign with anyone you think would like a HoopaDoo just like me.
Shim says if we can raise £80,000 then I can have a new colour!

Made in the UK
Making HoopaDoo in the UK was always important to me so i'm happy to be joining forces with a credible manufacturing partner in the UK who can keep the integrity of HoopaDoo and manufacture in accordance with the EN71 Safety Standard and the EU Toy Safety Directive. All plastic parts are made from baby safe non toxic materials.
Our manufacturer understands what is needed to build the tooling and is able to deliver HoopaDoo to high standards. A lot of the hard work has already been done;
Concept to Design Research - Engineered Drawings - Line Drawings - Prototyping - Safety Checks - Trademarks - Market testing - Sourcing materials - Obtaining quotes
But the next step is taking HoopaDoo to the production line by:
Building the tools - Testing the tools - Testing Samples - Final Production Run - Shipping to you!
It will take 8 months from the Kickstarter launch date to the delivery date. So HoopaDoo will be with you for Spring/Summer 2016! We have buffered in time for Christmas holidays, New Years and the Easter holidays in April.
The total cost required to make HoopaDoo is £68,820 and is broken down as follows:
The future is bright, the future is red......?
Just a peek into the future of HoopaDoo. It was always intended to be extended and allow you to pimp up your HoopaDoo by introducing new colours, themes and textures.
This project has been the work of many hands without which would not exist. Thank you to all of the people who have shown confidence in HoopaDoo and myself.
PW12 - Thanks for the advice and long days spent on the animation for the HoopaDoo video.
Thomas Marena Creative - A massive thanks for shooting a great video and the endless hours of editing!
Centreline Design - For bringing to life my vision of HoopaDoo and for supplying the graphics for this Kickstarter and their general ongoing support.
Team HoopaDoo - My army of friends and volunteers who dedicated time over the years and this summer to help bring this project alive. I am forever thankful and humbled to have you in my life.
Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges posed for this project are ensuring the tooling is manufactured to a high standard which will then ensure the quality production of the plastic parts. I have spent the last year seeking out experts in tool building and plastic moulding and building relationships to ensure the production and safety requirements are met for HoopaDoo.
The tool will be built in Asia through established connections and shipped to the UK where HoopaDoo will be manufactured. All production will be in accordance to the Toy Safety standard EN71 so that all materials being used are baby safe and traced back to their origin. There is always a scheduling risk when shipping from overseas, and a simple thing like customs can change the shipping schedule by a few days to a month and possibly longer. This is why I have chosen to work with people who have vast experience in this field to limit the risk and challenges.
A lot of the work has been done already - designs have been finalised, tech drawings are done, prototypes have been tested and the safety aspect has been analysed. Through the production process, small design changes may be needed to ensure quality, function, and aesthetics - but ultimately the core design will remain the same.
All costings are based on direct quotes I have obtained from manufacturers, so not much deviation is expected. However, production costs can change significantly if fuel/shipping charges rise or the cost of plastic for the parts goes up or metal for the tooling increases.
I have an extensive background in Accounting and as far as managing budgets and logistics goes, I have a wealth of knowledge and experience spanning nearly 20 years for some major global companies that I can bring to this project alongside working with some formidable companies.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
