Smart Froc Monitors Your Baby's Development
Raising a happy, healthy child is one of the most rewarding experiences in your life. Yet, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the huge responsibility and sheer number of daily tasks parents face every day.
This is why we created Smart Froc.
Smart Froc enables you to track your child’s weight effortlessly and continually, every time your son or daughter sits on the highchair. Everything you need to do is check the weight on your smartphone app! Piece of cake, right?
As you know, establishing a growth chart is the basic tool to determine your baby’s health, and with Smart Froc this is as simple as checking your email!
Smart Froc works with the Smart Froc app, that will be available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
How Does it Work?
Smart Froc features built-in weight sensors under the seat that communicate with the smartphone using Bluetooth 4.0. The scale ensures a 0,022 lbs (100g) accuracy.
The Smart Froc app features an algorithm for normal weight/age trends; if the weight data is below or above the average, the app will alert you with a notification, that you can share with your baby’s pediatrician.
Here is the detailed description for the technical types in the house. The weight measurement is provided by four sensors under each of the four sections of the seat. As in your regular scale you use at home, sensors know, which sensor is loaded more and they automatically compensate for the extra load.
As you know, babies never just sit still and give the scale time to measure the weight appropriately. We solved this challenge by calculating the final weight by taking the 6 biggest readings and calculate the average. During our testing process this proved to be reliable and accurate. The result is then sent to the smartphone app using the Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE) technololgy.

Of course Smart Froc features a special Baby Set, designed to keep children up to 3 years old completely safe. The Froc Baby Set includes a restrainer and a safety belt.
Certified Safety & Stability
It’s one thing to build a high chair and enter it in the thorough European EN-14988-1 and EN-14988-2 safety standard approval process (which we did and passed). But it’s an entirely different thing to use it at home with your own children (which we are, daily). It's virtualy impossible to tip it over, as can happen with some highchairs on the market.
Mounted on a solid leg with four steel reinforced leg extensions, the chair's centre of gravity is always at the centre, ensuring impeccable stability.

Durable & All-natural
We manufacture Smart Froc entirely from locally sourced, high quality beech wood. As a naturally strong, durable and child-friendly material, its sturdy and quality built will ensure years and years of carefree use.
Smart Froc is manufactured in Slovenia, the third most forested country in the whole Europe and it covers more than 50% of the country’s territory.

The Development Process: The First Froc
As so many ideas before, this one too, was born out of necessity. When we couldn't find a highchair on the market we liked, we've decided to build one themselves. We set out to develop an adjustable, wooden, practical highchair, that would fit in our home - so we partnered with the design agency Gigodesign.
It turned out combining our parenting and wood making experience with the designers' expertise was an excellent move.
The Smart Froc Upgrade
We were pretty excited with Froc, and so were hundreds of users all across Europe who bought it for their little ones.
We knew we had an amazing product, but we wanted to go further and develop something innovative. When our home scale broke down, it suddenly dawned on us: what if you could monitor your child’s weight directly on the highchair?
All we had to do at that point is to find ambitious makers and innovators who could help us develop the 'smart' upgrade. When we met with the team behind Slovenia's first IoT (internet of things) MakerLab at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, we knew we had a perfect match.
Applying MakerLab's collaborative spirit, connecting aspiring electro engineers, tech specialists and IoT makers means we soon had a working prototype.
As Smart Froc uses high accuracy load cell technology, the same as in other well-known body and baby analysers under the seat, we achieved really good weight accuracy of 0,022 lbs (100g) .
After a successful testing and calibration process, everything was ready to launch our Kickstarter campaign!
We Asked the Doctor
We asked a pediatrician why parents should track the baby's weight regularly. And, while we were there we wanted to know his opinion on Smart Froc. This is what he told us.
As you know, keeping track of your baby’s weight continually and establishing a growth chart helps monitor your baby’s health, and also determine the correct food intake.

Risks and challenges
We need to raise the funds to establish production in Slovenia, buy some tools and equipment and place bulk orders for the materials.
Shipping options have already been checked out and most of the arrangements have been confirmed. The chair has been tested in the laboratory and we received all the relevant certificates. We’re already building a strong customer support network for the Kickstarter campaign as well as later communication so we’re not leaving anything to chance.
