Reviving the medieval fable of Reynaert the Fox in a unique style of handmade and digital animation.
The mid thirteenth-century Dutch beast epic "Van den vos Reynaerde" is a fascinating reworking of the most popular branch of the Old French "Roman de Renart" and one of the finest examples of this popular genre, consisting of a lengthy cycle of animal tales which provided a satirical commentary on human society.
We’re two digital design students from Ghent, Belgium. During the last years of our course, we made a lot of assignments such as websites, apps, videos and animations. Which are fun to do, but we don’t like to just sit behind a computerscreen all day. We love making things with our hands. making a prop or a puppet is way more rewarding to us than just having a file on a hard drive.
As students, we are full of fresh ideas and 100% motivated to push ourselves to new boundaries and create movies that you, the viewers, can enjoy as much as we enjoy making them.
Although we haven’t got that much experience in making animation movies from start to finish, there are a lot of amazing animators from whom we can learn a lot. In January we’re going on a 8 week internship where we will work together with experienced animators. Here we will have to opportunity to learn everything there is to know about animation so we can deliver a beautiful end result for you, the viewers!
CURRENT MOVIE STATE
Currently we are in pre-production stage. We already have some dolls and sets but storyboarding, scripting, set building and character design are things where we haven’t got that much experience with and are super important to get right! That why we’re searching people via this campaign who want to share their experience and maybe even want to work together with us!
We have a deadline for the trailer, the 1st week of June 2016.
PUPPETS, SETS AND PROPS
We are experimenting with different materials all the time, searching for new props and collecting all kinds of things to make our dolls and sets: from rusty steel to tweaks covered with moss. Every detail in the movie has its own story: it may have been found on the street, bought from the flea-market, received as a gift from a friend or even found in our own closet. This is how the shots are filled with life.
We are also constantly experimenting with different techniques to combine a digital aspect to the real sets and dolls. We thought it’d be cool to add the legs, arms, tails and faces to the dolls in post-production. this makes is possible to give every character his own characteristics and movements.
Just like we like to make our own sets and everything around it, we also like to make our gear ourselves. Sliders, Lighting,… are all made as DIY projects. But there are some things we just can’t make. thats where some of the money we raise will go to.
As rewards, we wanted to make some cool items that people would really like to have and perfectly aligns with our “hands-on”- mentality!

As for the deadline, the beginning of June, we don't expect too much delays. However if something should come up, we'll be completely transparent in communication towards you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
