Thank you, Brad!
Hi! I am Penny Eifrig, a mom of two great girls, community activist, and publisher. When the kids were little, we used to say our kids were born perfect, and it is all damage control until we send them out on their own. To help with the "damage control," we need to provide them with good tools to help them thrive. EFT Tapping can be that tool.
Our kids are growing up in a a world filled with many personal and societal worries. There are the daily worries and concerns about friends, schoolwork, sports, fitting in, being "good enough".... and then there is a whole crazy world the adults have created for them too. It is a lot to face. EFT Tapping provides a tool to help them deal with a wide range of emotions they experience day to day: fear, anxiety, shame, anger, sadness, grief, worry.... and they need ways to feel good about themselves, too!
It helps kids (and adults) get through these emotions without letting them get the overhand. When my younger daughter was little, she would get so overwhelmed by her emotions that she could not find her way out of the anger, disappointment, or sadness, even after she had long forgotten what it was all about.
It was not until she was almost 10 when we discovered EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), the missing tool in her emotional toolbox to help her regain control. After hearing about EFT Tapping from a psychologist, we explored the wealth of online videos by Brad Yates, an expert practitioner of EFT, and we started tapping along with him. His relaxation videos became part of her bedtime routine, and emergency tapping sessions were looked up when she was in the midst of an anxiety attack, or was stuck in a rut feeling down, or needed to find calm before a test at school. Our entire family began using EFT on a regular basis, to simply help us FEEL BETTER, think positive, and help us destress.
At the time, we were living in Berlin, and when we saw that Brad was going to be in London, we decided to make it a road trip.
We got to spend the day tapping along with Brad, experiencing the breadth of support that tapping can provide for all kinds of stress-related emotions, from coping with immediate situations to alleviating pain and trauma from years ago as well.
Since then, the past five years have been filled with many a tapping session. Sometimes it was for an urgent situation where in the heat of an emotional moment we searched Brad's YouTube channel for the perfect video. We also listened to the calming and positive self-image videos that Brad created (created for adults) almost every night to develop a positive mindset. I kept thinking how great it would be to have an instant resource specifically geared to kids to help them deal with specific emotions and stress situations.
Since I am a publisher of books (Eifrig Publishing) with positive and empowering messages for kids, it made sense to create a book filled with tapping. It was life-changing for my family I also started a non-profit called Random Acts of Reading with a mission to foster creativity and literacy and a means to provide books to kids in underprivileged areas.
With these ideas in mind, we reached out to Brad, and are now creating a beautiful picture book that also serves as an instant resource for parents and teachers.
Along with the beautiful illustrations that provide an opportunity to talk with kids about what they are feeling, A GARDEN OF EMOTIONS provides 10 instant videos that can be quickly accessed by scanning the appropriate code. Each video specifically created by Brad for this book includes the self-empowering words "I am a really great kid" and the videos address a range of emotional challenges:
- Choosing to Feel Good
- Letting Go of Fear
- Calming Down
- Feeling Good Again
- Being Positive
- Knowing You Are Good Enough
- Being Kind to Yourself
- Being Kind to Others
Brad is providing the words, and the tapping will be presented by children whom kids can relate to as they easily tap along. (We may even end up with versions in Chinese, German, Spanish and Arabic in a second phase!)
Our goal is not only to provide this resource to the informed parents who have already discovered the amazing tool of EFT Tapping but to also provide books and instruction to schools to help them implement tapping in the classroom.
I also spent much of the past two years volunteering at the ICC Refugee Camp in Berlin (see our campaign THEY HAVE NAMES) with some amazing kids from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and beyond, where I introduced tapping to them to help get them through rough days in the camp. I collaborated with a Swedish EFT Trauma organization, Peaceful Heart, to organize training for some of the child support staff there. Tapping often made the difference in quickly resolving conflicts and alleviating sadness. (Watch Mohammed practice it while dealing with the ever-present noise of the kids in their indoor play area!)
Your support of this book will help provide copies to kids in schools and organizations in the US, as well as in refugee camps in Germany and beyond.
One kid at a time, we hope to help relieve some of the stress that kids here and abroad are facing. It is a lifelong skill that can help one to make calm decisions in stressful situations during all phases of one's life.
EFT was a game-changer for my daughter. Support this project and help your kids and others' gain this important tool to help decrease stress and increase happiness!
We'd love to have you join us with this project!
Risks and challenges
As an indie publisher with an established line of books, there are no major hurdles to get this book created. The illustrations are currently being painted by the talented Deborah O'Connor, and her grandson is both the model for the paintings and the child who will be sharing the tapping.
We are collaborating with stckr.it to create the video links, and the printing of the book will be done in the USA this summer.
We are hoping to raise much more than the $4000 needed to do an initial print run. If we can start out with a larger print run, we can give even more books away as the cost per book will be lower.
So let's blow out the kickstarter!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
